I have used the bosch Knock sensor mounted on the top alternator lug (quite expensive) and Polestar intergrated the unit and programable driver IC into my Turbo ECU, You can specify a freqency range and a threshold, the ECU then retards or advances depending on what it sees..Again this was cheap cos My mini was the development hack.
Didn't know it was such a talked about feature.
With this and the water injection I just hammer the car and let the ECU sort things out.
Annoying little novas, saxos & fiestas as well as the odd cosworth is the best bit as we all know..Ha Ha

Death to all saxos!!!

hi guys, not too sure where we will mount the knock sensor, i will be having a better look at it when i get back from holidays, with my mini its a different story as im putting a alto twin cam turbo engine into the engine bay, i will let you know how we go, by the way another standalone ecu that detects knock and that i think is very good is the adaptronic (www.adaptronic.com.au), i will be using this ecu for my mini alto conversion as i has some really cool features like active knock control and AFR self tuning.

cheers

hi, the subaru does have a factroy knock sensor but the factory ecu is stupid to say the least(especially the kncok detection), before i had the knocklight i would hear knock/detenation while giving it a hard flogging, but now i see the knock light go off before i even hear the knock, so it give me a chance to get off the gas before the engine decides to go pop, i have seen alot of the subaru engines break so thats why i got the knocklight installed and as you say it just cuts into the output signal of the factory knock sensor so its not hard to fit, but when fitting to the mini you need to fit a bosch knock sensor no dramas though.

cheers
