Don't think the blocks worth selling anyway because the bloke drilled out the threads that hold the gearbox on. Cant see the crank worth anything, even though its been re-ground.

Its only a bit of metal. If it blows it blows!

Don't bin it.. 1275 A-series engines will be scarce soon. I'd prefer a linered block compared to a "normal" one....

I use 5/16 bolts between the block and box anyway...

Anyone want to swap it for a non-linned one then?

yes seized and full race cam, hmmmm,

also 175 lift rockers??

each piston has 15cc dish for more compression!!!! WTF!!

Cooper S rods?? maniflow exhaust manifold!!!????

someone who has built an engine like this from scratch should know better!

have i missed summit dude ?
just a thought but if he says it was seized but not started and is using stroked cranks with s rods also 469 cam or supersprint it is easy for the engine to lock up if the cam is not timed right (not sure of terminology) also if using stroked cranks he has not ground out parts of the gear box it will foul it..........there may be absolutely nothing wrong with this mate.........as for drilling out the holes to on the block for the gearbox.....that is a trick normally used by the rally x lads they either tap em out for 1/2" bolts or drill em straight through and nut and bolt it together with stainless bolts for strength :) most of mine were done infact i have tapped my turbo block out just outta habbit lol !

Because? As the liners are interference fit, I think you'll find that heat conductivity is just as good as a regular block.

Tom Fenton Not saying any thing bad, But it seems to me that you have gone to all the trouble of having some stronger caps put on and for the centre one, the 2 holes drill in the block. When it looks like you using a standard old crank and may be rods................Not thing wrong with all that but any I missing some thing? why the different caps if your using all the standard other bits???

all the best MW

The main bearing housings when checked were not round. Seeing as a line bore was needed to correct the ovality of the housings, and considering the quotes I received for doing this, I elected to spend a bit more and get the caps done as well, maybe a bit overkill, but gives a strong base for anything I may want to do differently in the future.
To my mind the main inherent weakness in an A series mini engine is the three main bearing crankshaft, and the associated bending loads that the centre main has to put up with. In my mind anything that can be done to increase rigidity of the centre block web (and hence bearing) is a good thing.
I didn't lose the caps by the way, instead I threw them into an arc furnace as they were no fucking good for use nor ornament.

Actions such as checking the size and shape of the main bearing housings, and then DOING something to correct problems found, are, in my mind, the thing that set a properly built engine apart from one built be guesswork. They are also the kind of things that give a reliable engine, which is what we all strive to achieve.
