not sure how well these cope pumping against a solid blockage (i.e. thermostat).
I personaly reckon you'd be better running a controller and no thermostat. but of course that's another £80!

Too many projects!

im going to be doing the same jim. there will be never a case of full blockage though as you have either a bypass hose or bypass holes drilled in the stat *smiley*

I suspect once up to temp even with a controller you'd find the pump is at full power anyway so you may as well keep it this way.

I think you'd need a blanking sleeve rather than no thermostat at all as well.

mine works fine , no controller on it though , other mini runs nice and cool as well , that has standard setup.

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

Electric water pumps was fitted on Volvo's.

It aims at decrease the temperature of the turbo when your engine cut off.

They were fitted to solve an oil température problem ( oil becomes carbon ).

and how often do you drive for 24hrs a day???

Seriously - work it out by how many hours a week you'd drive your mini on average. Then divide the hours by that to get a realistic figure!!!

I've read that the best kit for an electrical water pump for Minis is the one sold by KAD (supposedly). On the same note I also read the Davies Craig pumps are crap - but that was when used on American V8 muscle, so who knows.

After doing a bit of further searching I read that Keith Calver (he says a lot of shite tho!) recommends the pump from the following site

http://www.corley-conversions.co.uk/ - a Hillman Imp specialist! *surprised*

Anyhow, I emailed the chap about how you would fit one to a Mini and he just said -

"Hi Kevin,
I supply lots of electric pumps to both K.A.D and Southam Mini Metro Centre.
As far as I am aware they either block off the pump housing with an inlet port welded to the blank or simple remove the impeller and leave the pump body in place.
We recomend wireing it in with a switch and warning light so you can leave it running after shut down so you avoid head boilup."

I also emailed KAD -

"Dear Kevin,

Thank you for your email.

We supply the electric water pump kits with adaptors to convert Mini rad hoses to the diameter of the pump body but as to connecting to the engine we have usually pressed the impeller and bearing out of the standard water pump housing and welded the remaining hole up. It does afford the option of putting the water in in the conventional position or on the same axis as the crank depending on the installational requirement i.e. straight in through where the bearing was or through the original pipe."

A bit of useless info I thought I would share with you all! Not bad for my first post here... *oh well*

Kevin

firstly, Kev your not fat just bigged boned!

I use the pump for Corley conversions, it is the same pump all the miglia guys use. I turned the impeller on the pump down as I wanted to keep the side mounted rad and fan.
It works great for me, this is the only pic I can find of the old water pemp turned down.

My sister is so fit I won't show anyone her picture

Lake District

Here's a water pump with the impellar removed so you can use an electric pump, but keep the engine driven fan for a side radiator.

And heres a water pump with the internals completely removed and the hole "plugged". This is what i used when i had a front mounted radiator.
