If you are interested in Computerised Fluid Dynamics then check this out.

http://www.ansys.com/products/sys-demos.asp?ID=10

This could be used to check out all these theories!

You could also it to improve the turbo metro plenum design as being discussed elsewhere.

TurboDave could also check out the design of his new intake.

I have a working copy of this software. What I do not have is the CAD skills to build the 3D models.

You've got Ansys???

Just the CFD or the full FEA aswell?

I have Ansys CFX Workbench 9.0 not the latest though but will do the job. Not sure that this is the full FEA software but it uses the same theories.

Downloaded it for evaluation purpose (cough).

I got it to model flow in large scale pumping systems. Problem is that it does not allow for the earths rotation. If you modelled water emptying down the bath plug-hole it would not swirl!!!!

However, it will model air flow through manifolds or flow over cars no problem. According to the advertising blurb, this is what the F1 boys start with before they go to the windtunnel.

I would need a 3D model in autocad first, then probably a couple of weeks of solitary before I got any results!

Anyone else willing to give it a try?

I'll put together a simple 3d 'building block' model for you over Christmas - unless i find time to do one earlier - but i have an manifold, injector test rig, and flywheel to design (all of which are immediately of benefit).

Anyone else with cad and spare time?

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Have a word with Dan TD as in my old office (dan's current one) we do all sorts of modelling with ansys and more to do full combustion etc modelling.
Some clever chaps in the office!! also some willing to run a few programs as they'd tend to be more interested in that than work!! *happy*

Not saying he can get access but there is a good chance as i know he's had a play before for a uni project.

I don't know about you but I've got a 1275 to build, a head to port, a Mini 30 to spray (if its warm enough) and a Mini Sprite to strip ready for its new engine!!!!!

If Issigonis had CFD we would not have the mini as it is today. However, I'm concious that we can get bogged down in the theory as much as anyone, but there are times when we can save a lot of time and effort by at least part proving something by science.

I'm going to get some CAD training at work in the new year. I might just try and produce a 3D model of the metro plenum for starters. We might then know more than the original designers about how it flows!
