Now that the fact is known that the block required line-boring, that price is more than fair. Line boring is an expensive and time consuming operation to carry out, and so you expect to pay good money to have it done.

I don't personally think there is any question at all of who the blabbermouth is............

i was mate i was but the project seems a bit tarnished now

i dont know i was prob at fault i should never have named the engineering company, but then it was never a name and shame i just wanted honest advice on pricing from others quality of work has never been an issue i just need to be more carefull with money now something i really never had to worry about in the past

Im new to this web site , but .... and i have read the replys twice and the other posts to, and i think the hanging squad came out to early without getting all the info from both sides.

Perhaps a lesson is to be learned.

We have people on this web site that try to help , in all ways from the web site it self, to the parts and the engineering .If we react like this ,to these people then it won`t last.

This guy is trying to earn a living ,his mistake is he didn`t lift the phone and talk, to say what he had found. He assumed it was ok to proceed. If i were you wolfie i`d talk to the guy and share the blame.

Human nature tends to make us angry...if we feel we have been wronged , but lets get the facts first and mind our own business when it comes to mindless talk.It could damage a small business very easily.

Think before you pick the phone up.
Cool down .

I`ve had my say , sorry if this has upset anyone, truth hurts.

I know , i know im sorry , it just makes me grin !!!

Intercooled 1293 cc Turbo +
March 06,4psi and counting .
Its now gone up to 8psi.
Nov 06,10psi +.
And now part of the Airbourne club.

And that would also tie up with how the story also got 'exagerated' by the time it had got to Rob aswell...

Wolfie didn't have to name-names - but he did. I actually think it's not a problem - as it does make a difference in this case. If he'd have been given the price off some 'budget build' place, who wouldn't even know a line borer if they fell over one, then it'd be open season.
As it is - something was clearly amiss when a respected company gave an invoice so far over the initial estimate. It has all come out in the open - and if Rob wanted to access a computer he could indeed see how the internet version might actually be a little different to the version he 'heard' from an un-named source.

If i were you Wolfie - I'd print this off - and send it to rob so he can take a look at it himself, in his own time - and see exactly how the story unfolded, how you never slated him - and how you're very happy with what has been done. You were - afterall - only asking independant advice before going back and askign him to validate the pricing.

Anyway, He should NOT have line bored the block without asking for permission first. That is consumer laws.
I agree that the price is fair, but that's not what is questioned here.

What has happened here is just the same as the forum bit called comapniues to avoid. The reason I never liked this. People are so fucking ignorant sometimes.

I've refused to sell bits and people to folks becasue they are complete tossers. No matter how good the parts are, they'll complain or ruin them. Companies cannot do this. Think about it.

Rob made a mistake, but the biggest mistake EVER is to discuss it here before discussing it with the dealer.

Same goes with the layshaft thread.

Just because someone has a website doesn't mean they are on the internet. I've done websites for people before who don't own a computer, let alone have an email address.

I'd go with Dave's idea, print this off, write Rob a nice letter explaining why some idiot might have a problem with you as a user of this website, and apologize. I'm sure he'll see what's happened and everything will be OK.

leeds/wakefield.

so really this has been a missunderstanding of sorts, so we'll assume wolfie did not know about the line boring when this thread was started, which puts a whole different view on the work done ,which on reflection makes up the large extra chunk of money,
i suggest this thread is locked and left at that , now the confusion has been sorted,.
and there was me thinking that you know who was tring to get along with folk.

i agree i think the thread should be locked, i did try to explain to rob that other peoples views are out of my control, at the time i did not feel naming the engineering company was an issue as i dont have and will never have an issue with them, i was just seeing what people views were with the facts i had at hand at the time, i dont belive that i should have spoken to them first as i was only looking to see what others had paid and if it was fair as once you have paid and walked away you cant grumble about the price
