Fastest A Series Mini in the World

leeds/wakefield.

here's one for you then Tom , 3 years back i built up an engine to put into my green car, [the one that is in the back of the twinnie now].
it had a few hours on it and one day i was doing some job which envolved the carb, ,
when firing it up on completion of task the engine creemed its tits off , blind panic ensued and i couldn't for the life of me turn the ign key to off ,so ran like headless chicken to fronnt of the car in panic to see whats wrong ,then back to cabin and swiped ign off, all this time the engine is absolutly killing itself with revs, [but no valve bounce].
so i finally got it turned off after what seamed like an eternity, probably no ore than 8 secs,
i jardly dared to look back into the garage for fear of seing it full of smoke from my now destroyed engine ,but when i did things were clear, not a trace of oil anywhere,
quite releived i pressed the tell tale on my stack st406. remember these are 100% accurate. 9400. no more no less.
it ran perfectly thereafter.

I used to scream up my 998 to 7500 rpm regularly - standard rods and crank... no mainstrap! and she blew up from the distributor many miles later, the crank rods and pistons are still fine!

I donated, but somehow didn't get the label! :(

The only similar stories I have are my Dads Sherpa van screaming its bollocks off when a jubilee clip got into the SU and jammed the butterfly wide open..........

Or the time I blew my 405 Mi16 to smitherreens on the M69 chasing a Fiat 20v Turbo......

That was a biggie.....con rod failed halfway down its length at about 6500rpm, smashed the cast iron liner and piston, and the alloy block casing and sump had a hole in it 8" by 2" and also a crack from head to sump. Broke the cambelt in protest. Bent all 16 valves. Filled the inlet manifold with smashed bits of piston. Oh and the crank was bent as well.
All in all a big pile of scrap engine! I think the only things worth keeping were the cams, the cam cover, and the manifolds.

Stack tachos use a stepper motor and are digital.

As far as the light weight argument goes i'm going with the heavy mob !! lol. Its revs that put the strain on your pistons, rod, crank etc, the difference in forces due to the forced induction are small opposed to the forces of accelerating and deacellerating the piston assembly up and down the bores. If your building a high revving normally aspirated engine then you do need such things to reach the kind of rpm needed for high outputs. However in a forced induction engine you dont need to rev this high, max torque is fairly low down and the turbo is going to be running out of steam trying to keep up with your screaming engine. So if your not going to do high rpm just get a good solid well balanced bottom end.
