even worse when youve got a sump guard, it ends up like an extra tool tray.

and on mini meetings you can open the bonnet to show your engine.

it will be very nice to decorate it with flowers in the holes.

and do not forget to fill up the clutch with water, so the flowers do not get thirsty...

*happy* *tongue* *happy* *tongue*

lol i dont know why feebs but this posts reminds me of the time when somebody dropped a washer down there sparkplug hole lol *tongue**happy**happy*

was it you that thought they did this?? he he he

it wasnt a washer! it was a valve but no-one told me so i took my head off to get it. it wasnt my fault :(

Hey i have no mechanical background at all no-one in my family is a mechanic or anything and theres only me and dan really interested in engines, so its all been a big learning thing for us!

So what happens if the washer thats on the bolt holding the top engine stabiliser (dog bone shaped) and the earth strap to the block falls down the hole? Dont you have to remove the whole thing to get it out? I know i wouldnt leave it in there.

do you really have holes drilled that big?

I reckon if you dropped a 17mm spanner through the holes it would bloody serve you right anyway, as you shouldn't be using metric spanners on a mini, you should be using imperial ones!

but 17mm spanner will fit a 3/4 nut if you hammer it on hard enough.

You rough bastard, 3/4" = 19.05mm by my maths, that is a hell of a lot of hammering by anyones standards to get a 17mm spanner on there!

But I suppose that is what you get when you let a carpenter loose with metal.......

that really is a classic!!!*happy*

I once changed a head gasket in a hurry and put the rocker shaft on and torqued the head up, and didnt realise id forgotten the push rods!!!

why not put a sheet on the wok while youre working on the engine?

You have just reminded me of something!!!

When this enigne was built a few thousand miles ago, it had new cam followers in it. with taking the engine apart ive taken them out along with the pushrods, i havent mixed the pushrods up but i have mixed the followers up. the other day someone from ebay came round and told me that ill need new ones now, is that true?

leonard i just laughed quite loud and uncontrolably at the push rods thing*tongue*

about the metric and imperial thing, i have been working on minis for over 3 years now and i still havent got a clue about imerial sizes, say what you like but i just cant recognise any of them apart from i know i can use a 13mm on a 1/2" nut. maybe thats were i am going wrong lol. us kiddies have a lot to learn yet*tongue*
i can guess with SOME acuracy what spanner i need in metric tho.

I agree with Feebs on this. Bir1 has no inner wings. I occasionally drive on gravel roads... This might be a bad idea. but I guess the surface you drive on is important here.
If you got inner wings it's not that big a deal.

I prefer more smaller holes to be honest!

ooooh thats a really good point now i think about it. maybe some fine gause (gauze aww i dont care that I cant spell :( ) might do a suitable job of stopping rogue objects from intruding.

I got some imperial spanners for christmas, they're great. Proper tools make a job SO much easier.

Ha, its for go not show, but i decided to soak the wok in nitromoors just for you!!

was tempted to repaint the timing cover and bits and bobs black, but in the end, im a lazy git, and im only gonna put it into a hedgerow on the first outing so....

its going in today, im mocking up the front rad and remote oil filter (soon to have MS too, cheers Ben), but knowing me ill get impatient and stick the std bits back on just to get it running.
