Oh and Jackman, I started it at lunchtime, before i read this.

Almost started first time, when it backfired into the inlet, i figured ignition was 180 degrees out. Swapped the plugs around, turned the key and it fired up. No leaks and sounds amazing, totaly different to the 1275.

Oil pressure is between 75 and 85 psi at idle or at revs. I fitted the cooper S spring and ball. I'll keep my eye on it

Well chuffed

just got to get the other drive shaft plugged in, bead the brakes and clutch, tighten up the CV joint nuts and its pretty much ready to roll.

all oil will carry a spec - and this is found on the back at the bottom of the label, penrite stopped printing this on the bottle so I switched to Valvoline, who are not afraid to show there spec. For example if you pick up a bottle of 15w40 turbo oil and a bottle of 15w40 diesel oil they have the same spec. but most diesel owners will only buy oil with the word diesel on the bottle.

Suffering a little pinking. Suspect this is down to me running 10.5:1 CR with an ECU that originaly ran 9.4:1 CR. Going to try and retard the dizzy and see what happens.

But, shit the bed, its quick compared to the standard 3.1:1 FD 1275 non cooper engine that was in there. Think I'm going to be red lining in fourth across the line, as to what speed or time, who knows, who cares, its gonna be fun. If it gets us there that is

Have you tried running super unleaded, this may cure your pinking problem?

Well, the CR is what it is, as that is what it was and going to be.

Standard non Cooper ECU. This is the problem, need the cooper ECU which has ignition maps for 10:1 CR rather than the ECU I have which is for a CR of 9.4:1. Just havent got the time or been able to find the right one to start messing around with these black boxes

Thought about the dizzy retard thing as i was getting the tools out. Cant adjust it, the ECU determines when to fire the spark and moving the dizzy body will do nowt, its mearly puts the spark to the right plug, does nothing for ignition timing.

So, added some octane booster and appears better.

suck it and see me thinks, still goes realy well though

Already running super. Now with the octane booster i recon its abot the same as that Tesco 99 stuff????????

Its not the CR thats the problem or the fuel its just the wrong ECU.

Well that makes it the most powerful car running a standard ECU that I have heard from outside of bar room gossip.

Well done mate.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

thanks mate, it was all i was after, but i feel that there is still some potential in the engine with a programable ECU, just wont have the time to get it mapped as the engine is coming out in the next couple of weeks to make way for the 16v. The 1400 could do with a lightened bottom end and the Kent 274sp cam.

Lol, i fitted the 610cc injector last night, and it idled great but went massively lean at full throttle above 3000rpm. fitted the 670cc injector and it runs slightly rich at idle and is fine the rest of the way through. Its either that the injector is leaking at the lwer end, but i suspect that the ECU is at the limits of adaption, hence the VEMS purr chase, realy dissapointed i couldnt get it mapped.

MM, i think i'll have another go at it this week, theres another RR session organised by Manchester Minis club at Mikanics in Congleton next week. MMM i wonder

Thanks John.

I had to laugh at my self. I felt a bit of a cheeky bugger when the first run only gave 99bhp and i asked if we could do it again to see if we could get that extra one bhp. The operator agreed, lol, and then proceded to buz the engine to the Hard cut limit. His comenst were 'what can i say, superb'

Oh and the car looked shiney as well except for that ding in the offside wing*tongue*

Yeh the only car that was noteble was a Cooper S 500 fitted with a VmaxScart 140bhp Supercharger kit. There were some fueling problems with it and the run was cut short in fear of melting something. It still made 128bhp and 114lbft - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFOqQUD6vKw

Welll done, good power for the engine. Just need to get the 16v sorted and see what that can do! I have renewed enthusiasm for mine at the moment so really want to get it done.
