I am loving being off work at the min. I have had 3 full days working on bits for the car.
The first of the matty manifolds i had to do some work on it and the block to fit my turbo nice and tight to the block.

all refaced

and the start of my new Heavy duty blanking plate

I am moving the alt hole out a bit so the alt will hang closer to the block.

and ths litte baby came in the post today

Thanks simon.

Right then, I have been working hard on the turbo eng and parts over the last couple of days.

I had to grind a lot more off the block than i wanted but oh well, I don't want a turbo box in the mk1

And I made a turbo exhaust flange BY HAND lol just needs cleaned up now.

I got the alt nice and close to the block now.

And the head is all put back together now with new springs and all the valves lapped up.

I cleaned the rods and pistons

And when I was stripping them I found this, it looks like a piece is missing, what do you think as I am a bit unsure if I will get a new one.

Also I have been thinking about the fuel return and I was going to weld a return into the left tank, but as I have twin tanks would this just fill the left from the right if you get what I mean.
I have a mate with an injection setup in his MK1 and his return is spilt between the 2 overflows.

i wonder if that ring was a little too tight or got abit too hot, strange for it to brake like that, did you note what cylinder it came out off? any scrapes on the bore.
possibly chipped of during the strip down

Looking good simon. Are you using a matty manifold and a gt17? If so it's good to know what needs to be done to the block.

Looking good Simon, I thought you would have it finished by now! *tongue*

Tom - Simons is a slightly different setup to the norm, all the manifolds have made clear the block. The only thing you might have to do, depending on compressor position, is file a flat on part of the compressor housing. *wink*

slightly different *wink* Is not the word! I have had to file the compressor housing then I broke through as a crack started, so that got tiged up, then I had to cut the flanges off mattys manifold that he made for me to cut about 15mm off the pipes. Then I had to grind the fuel pump housing and oil way. Then when that was all done I had to drop the face off the turbo flange about 3mm and the turbo face about 3mm so now it sits nice in the back of the block and all because I dont want to cut the bulk head so yes ever so slightly different

Thanks lads simon.

Also reading above,

definatly ditch that ring, I'd change the whole lot as a matter of course,

for plumbing the fuel feed and return, I would add two fittings to the left hand tank, of for feed one for return, and keep the original one as a balance pipe, and join the vents together with a tee piece.
