I would be embarrassed to put pictures up at the moment as its filthy. Rest assured Richie once it has a test on it and a good dose of spit and polish I will get plenty of pics up and pay a visit to Steve's with it.

Right over the last couple of weeks we have been spending the odd few hours here and there on the car.

We have fitted the exhaust, replaced the brakes and hubs with mini items (after replacing one of the ball joints in them). The car had metro items on which in my opinion without adjustable suspension affect the handling.

After this we were able to drive the car under its own steam. *happy*

Over the weekend we have: -

Finished fitting the headlining
Sealed the sunroof so that it doesn't leak
Fitted the rear and side windows. (still need to get finishing stip in)
Fitted doors and mirrors
Almost finished the interior (dash and door cards to do still)
Welded in a repair panel over a hole in the rear inner arch as it had just been plonked on top of the hole *surprised*
Made and fitted a screen wash bottle

It's starting to look a little bit more like a car now. The cardboard roof box isn't stopping, I just don't have enough storage space. :p

Shouldn't be too long before the MOT. However isn't going to be ready for Avon so I will be going in the Mighty Metro Van!

Things left to do before the test include:-

Fit front screen and finish installing screen fillet in rear screen
Fit windows into doors and fit door cards
Fit dash
Wire in rear number plate light
Secure battery
Finish wiring on removable front panel and finally bolt it into place
Cheak headlight alignment
Fit front wheel arches
Finish fitting grille
Bolt down bumpers
Tune engine
Grease suspension points, set ride height and damper firmness
Final thorough pre-test checkover.

Hopefully we won't miss anything and it should pass first time.

After that a thorough polish and then I will get it on the road and enjoy it until it sells. *happy*

The ride height doesn't look bad in that picture. Front might need to come up a touch though.

We should probably fit the front arches too...

Hi Richie,

The bonnet is just resting on the pins there as we are not finished under there. The MK1 style boot lid is still on there too.

I swapped the MK2 clusters out for MK4 items due to the loom in the car being a late type so that i dont have to change the connectors on the loom/lamps.

More progress last night.

The windscreen is in. Just got the fillet to fit to it. The Fillet is in the rear screen now with the help of some KY Jelly. *surprised*

Passenger door window in and door built up.

All the interior is together now. Dash, carpets, seats etc.

Wiring on the front panel and numberplate light is finished, grille is fitted firmly, bumpers bolted down.

Hopefully tonight I will fit the front arches. If I can find some suitable nuts.

Then onto the pre-test checkover.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Well got the arches on, but unfortunately they catch quite badly. have tried raising the ride height with no success.

Also found a steering rack boot is split :(

So back to the drawing board. Will have to get the sportpack arch template out and see if there is any problems, also plan to replace the tie bars and bushes.

The bushes are definately past their best and i suspect that the drivers tie bar is a bit bent.

On a positive note it looks good with the arches on.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Cheers Richie,

I have a spare rack and I think andy has a new boot laying around so we may be ok.

I also have a spare set of adjustable tie bars and bushes which is quite fortunate.

On the drivers side the tyre catches the front of the arch badly, so much that it wouldn't be useable.

The passenger side just rub's it slightly.

They also touch at the rear on full lock but that it down to it not having the sportspack rack/ KAD type steering rack limiter

It's the plastic arches that are rubbing not the wing edges.

the templates had the hole marks on them too buddy. good thing is if its the plastic and not the actual body worst case scenario is 5 holes to be drilled.

just make sure you put tape on to stop the drill bit wondering *wink*

Wilts

I found the sportspack templates to be an utter load of shite!

I drilled the holes where they were marked on the template, put the arch on, and to my surprise the arch sat about an inch lower than it should on the wing, and way lower where the bumper recess is.

I made up a numerous sets of templates (to see if i had made them up wrong) and it all way's fitted in the same place.

So in the end I took the studs out of my genuine sportspack arches, marked where the holes where on the arch with a blob of red paint, lined the arch up where i wanted it on the wing, left it for a second, took it off, drilled the holes where the red paint had been left.

Then simply re-threaded the holes and put thread lock on the studs. repeated on the passenger side. And their you have it Bobs your perverted uncle!

Then i had to piss about, welding up all the wrong holes! and then filler over them! typical, especially as they were essentially on a brand new shell, as pretty much every panel had been replaced!

The strange thing though, was that the a-panel hole was in the right place, even though all the other were not.

they matched up perfect when drilled and the arches are oem rover ones not copies, we will have to wait and see what John comes back with, the templates seemed ok to me, but each totheir own i guess

Took the car on its first test flight today, trade plates in and over to Andy's for MOT

Had to richen up the mixture a couple of turns and it seemed all was going well until the rain came. No ignition shield and holes in the bonnet = splutter splutter.

Also found that the water pump pulley is bent so the drive has facked the fan belt up. Oh well just another job.

That would be a job for me as John Boy is of on his holidays and is hoping to come back to a finished, moted and taxed car!

I must have Mug stamped on my arse!

EDIT: Can anybody who was in the bar at Avon on Saturday night confirm this??
