Right then i have had a right shit weekend.

I was away all last week hill walking with work and I got home around 10pm on friday. I went to bed and set the alarm clock for 9am as Ihad a some bits to make down at my mates place of work, as he goes home at 2pm on saturday. Anyway I woke up at 1pm well pissed off as half the day was gone.

So I got in the shed and had a look at what jobs I had to do on the eng. I had a look at the tray Paul sent me and it looked like postman pat had done the river dance on it so Iwas a bit pissed at that, then when I was fitting it I overdone one of the bolts and stripped the thread on the gearbox, so I had to put a nut on it.

I also fitted the temp sender

I came in and went to sit down to have a look on here last night and I put my hand down the back of the chair to switch on the plug for the laptop and got the biggest shock as one of our rodent house rabbits had ate the lead. It also looks like I have a virus on my laptop that is sending every one I know shit emails about viagra!

The little f~~kers.

Ok then day 2 got up and before I went out to the cave I put the laptop on and went and made some breakfast and when I came in I sat a pint of coke on the sideboard next to me. Anway the rabbits had another go at the laptop lead and as I went to twat the little d##khead the coke went all over the laptop, arm chair, and the wall. So I sorted it all out and off I went to get started in the shed, and put yesterday behind me and was pissing about with the turbo to make it fit better, as I did not like the look of it. I had the worst idea ever to grind a tad off the fuel pump lump (I had removed lots before) it was all going so well and then I saw a crack so I give it a tap with a hammer and this is what I ended up with!!

So at the min I have welded it up with my mig, a bit at a time with lots of heat

So now I am in 2 minds whether it would work or do I need a new block? Has anyone welded a block before with a Mig? I dont like cutting corners.

Thanks Simon.

DOH!!

I feel your pain after making a stupid mistake with my new block today.

i didnt think mig attaches to cast iron, but that looks pretty well stuck on.

I think I would give it som test taps with a hammer and if it stays put i'd go with it,

also its worth a spray of wd 40 on the inside so see if there are any fissures that will leak oil,

one other thing, wheck the cam and followers for weld spatter if they were in when you welded.

I was tapping the waterways for dry decking,

the three big ones I tapped 9/16UNF, but i accidently bought a left hand tap, and coudnt work out why it wouldnt tap, all of a sudden it munged its way through when i stuck the drill in reverse and i realized why it wouldnt work before...

I got ok threads in there but LH ones, so fortunatly i can just make LH threaded plugs.

the joke of it is I bought the tap especially to do the job, then after I fucked it up i found thet I already had a set of 9/16 R/H taps LOL

Shit mate, sorry to hear/see about your weekend from hell....
Sleep on it and take a look tomorrow or in a couple of days. Sometimes with a fresh head/perspective and a couple of days away from it you see past such problems and will be able to get the enthusiasm back.
Chin up :)

I'm no metallurgist, but that mig repair job doesn't look bad to me, hopefully someone will be along shortly to say it'll be fine!

Ok then sports fans,
Its been a mad week getting back on track with the eng. I got the block welded up in the end after tracking down the tig welding rods for cast that I needed for the block, which was fun*surprised*.

As the block was getting done I sat and sorted the loom out for the new stack gauges and to replace the edis plug for the Megajolt, as I didn't like what it turning into. Thanks Rob for the plug.

I also painted the eng bay by hand, so now I need to give it a good rub down.
Today I put it all back together and got the new oil drain sorted. ( the hose in the pic is for mock up only as it's a bit small*happy*)

and after reading the most confusing page on turbo water cooling I have done the hard cooling lines.

That is me for now
Thanks simon.
