I think 180 is probably possible from our current setup, but who knows. So few people develop the 998 turbo for high power that it will be a long time coming, unless you know better.

I have never heard of a 998 with more power than ours, or should I say never seen any proof.

I reckon it's very possible indeed. One guy around here (David someone or other) used to hillclimb a 50mm stroke 8 port. 115hp and 4mpg out of an 8 port 850. With a lot of PSI, it could have been even more awesome.

I worked with a guy for a bit who was ex ST and they were mucking around with a marshall cabin blower back in the mid 60's. Cue the same "I bet my 850 can whip your cooper S" Cue blower in the footwell, a sump with petrol in it, an SU carb off a fire engine and about 100hp at the wheels.

They used to run avgas and basically standard engines. All with loads of boost and suck through.

I think British Vita used a Marshall cabin blower with their sprinty thing... 180hp. As an old mate said, Vita were the reason he quit mini racing. They spent more on an engine than he did on his whole car.

I've got an old book somewhere about building dragsters and hotrods and it has a rail with an A Series and a massive rootes blower on it. It was methanol fuelled and someone refers to it running so much fuel it was on the edge of hydraulic locking. That may have been the 300hp one.

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

Those little dragsters on the NitroMethane would have been running AFRs between 3 & 6:1 *surprised*

Sumps full of fuel after each run.

Yes Mike that's a good point, what are the most powerful

Classes, Be interested to know how the 8 ports are getting on as IMO they should be up there with the 16V boys.

max power does come at big costs to lifespan for sure mate. I drive my car a lot in the summer months and now a days it brake some sort of teeth of the S/C gears, does a gearbox bearing in or what ever. ut if you turn the boost down to 150- 180 bhp IMO if done right it will last you a while.
But that's the price you have to pay. sadly.

I've always said you can't use 200 bhp in an a-series on the road, A torque steer will put you in a ditch and you will just break gearbox components. If i go for a thrash round the country lanes i turn it down to 12 psi, dragracing and short stince up the boost! Matt, where do you get your nitrous from these days?

it will be interesting to see how long my gearbox lasts, nobody has broken a swiftune box to date.

As regards to 200bhp on the road, I totally agree, I have many ways of controlling my boost, 3 differenent maps, boost maped to gear selected and a boost control on the dash. I can't imagine what 250hp would be like on a road with camber

I'm hoping that mine will be driveable at 12psi but only time will tell. Although it will be a weekend warrior so perhaps 15psi would be in order?

Lets hope that we have some K headed cars at Avon or MITP this year.

That will show us some real results.
