Is it as big as 3/8" ?? I have a vague memory of it being around 5/16" Why not jus remove the stud, and drill and tap for a larger one ?? The bolt is originally 3/8UNF. The reason I know is that the 9/16 spanner fits, and the 1/2" is too small

If you mean the shock mounts then yes, I'd suggest that it's a good idea to beef them up a bit.

I've pushed the top of the shock through the wheel arch twice with my standard subframe so I can imagine what it's like with a beam and coilovers. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

How on earth, with short shocks or far too low on standard shocks? Never, ever seen the rear shock mounts knocked out of a Mini on a standard subframe in 20+ years of looking at them!! Do people not fit bump stops to low cars anymore?

I don't know how it happened either but it did. Ride height wasn't that low but the roads were rough where I used to live (I remember hitting a BIG pot hole in my beloved Belfast the day before). Didn't think there was bump stops on the rear, only a brake union! The car is lower now and the top mount is strengthened and the roads are smoother so no probs so far. Think the fix was a dodgey one hence it went twice, good and solid now. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

for us young 'uns thats speedex type beam is 17.7kg lighter whole set up 35.8kg lighter Std subframe is 53.5kg That sounds similar to my measurement of holding the subframe and beam on my mums scales, but i cant remember if i weighed it with the dampers on and the subframe without. Ill try and get the scales and weigh it before i put it on speedex type beam is 17.7kg lighter whole set up 35.8kg Std subframe is 53.5kg

Unlike the original subframe the rear beam does not have that piece of folded tin for the hand brake cable to run through. Hence the need for the other set quadrants.
