Hi Guys, not really got any good pics of my rear subby, I've not cut much out. every little helps. I took advice from Endaf who adviced not to cut too much out or the tend to bend.

Yes, but it's an alloy never the less.

Is it as big as 3/8" ??

I have a vague memory of it being around 5/16"

Why not jus remove the stud, and drill and tap for a larger one ??

The bolt is originally 3/8UNF. The reason I know is that the 9/16 spanner fits, and the 1/2" is too small *wink*

when you say they only supply adjustable camber brackets, do you mean they come in the kit or you need to buy specific ones seperatly?

sorry about dragging up an old topic but hada question
wouls the arch need to be strenghtened where the shock mounts? considering it is the only point of beam to car contact besides the beam itself

If you mean the shock mounts then yes, I'd suggest that it's a good idea to beef them up a bit.

I have in the past run them with out any extra strengthening but only on a light car that was never going to have anything in the boot and had no rear seat pan. In hind sight I should probably have strengthened it up anyway

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

I've pushed the top of the shock through the wheel arch twice with my standard subframe so I can imagine what it's like with a beam and coilovers.

How on earth, with short shocks or far too low on standard shocks? Never, ever seen the rear shock mounts knocked out of a Mini on a standard subframe in 20+ years of looking at them!!

Do people not fit bump stops to low cars anymore?

I can see it happening if the damper bottoms out before the rest of the suspension or if you had a ralley car with a set of Spax set to max stiffness but ........

I regularly used got get all 4 wheels off the ground over a local hump back bridge and you could hear and feel all corners hitting the bump stops and never had a problem!!!!

I don't know how it happened either but it did. Ride height wasn't that low but the roads were rough where I used to live (I remember hitting a BIG pot hole in my beloved Belfast the day before). Didn't think there was bump stops on the rear, only a brake union! The car is lower now and the top mount is strengthened and the roads are smoother so no probs so far. Think the fix was a dodgey one hence it went twice, good and solid now.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u210/sp...on/DSC00160.jpg

You can see were i had to mod it to fit.
Even on the Minispares website it says "it fits all minis up to 1997." But my mini is a 1991 and it was miles out!

Also you should be able to see the camber adjustment but no track adjustment.

It's been powdercoated as it only comes it plan alloy.

What do you think..?

P.S. And does anyone happen to know the thread size of the top subframe bolts per chance. Mine could do with a run through just to clear some powdercoat.

Cheers

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

for us young 'uns thats

speedex type beam is 17.7kg lighter
whole set up 35.8kg lighter
Std subframe is 53.5kg

That sounds similar to my measurement of holding the subframe and beam on my mums scales, but i cant remember if i weighed it with the dampers on and the subframe without.
Ill try and get the scales and weigh it before i put it on

Unlike the original subframe the rear beam does not have that piece of folded tin for the hand brake cable to run through. Hence the need for the other set quadrants.

I will try and weigh the complete rear set up including radius arms and dampers just for a comparison.
