Just a little furthur info on the use of Weber needles.

Below is a picture of (L toR)
Standard Su needle
Standard Dellorto needle
Standard Weber DCOE needle
Standard Weber 32/36 (as fitted to ford crossflow GT)

Observations:-
Dellorto needle is smaller diameter than SU needle and would be unsuitable
Weber DCOE needle is too short and would be unsuitable
Weber 32/36 needle is a suitable length and should stand around 3mm orifice in SU valve body as opposed to the standard SU 2mm (approx).
The SU body will need to be opened up to accept the Weber needle as well as opening the fuel orifice
These needle valve assemblies are available new and although the body will not be useable the needle will.
Hope this is useful.

Unfortunatly I only have one of these in my weber spares box and it has already been promised to Metro Turbo in Blackpool.

Regards
Dave

Good pic.... pretty sure it was the 32/36 one then that I used. ALthough mine didnt have the brass tip like yours has.

I think there was more to me drilling the body of my SU seat out though ? Any pics of the 32/36 housing for the NV ?
Im sure I recall soldering bits together.

Also, cross drilling the body of the NV housing assists fuel flow into the bowl. Just means it doesnt have to pass by the body of the NV itself.

speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Stevie. Pics below
It would seem no problem fitting the 32/36 needle if you were to open the SU housing out to 6.5mm from it's existing 6.25mm.
The largest diameter of the taper on the SU needle is 3.14mm and the same on the Weber is 3.48.
The length of the SU needle is 14.7 mm and the Weber is 16.75mm.
So assuming you open the orifice in the SU body the weber needle having extra length should put the float level in the same position give or take a tiny bit.
I cant see where the soldering came in!
Like your idea of cross drilling the valve body
The bent wire on the Weber needle just pulls off and is not needed for the SU

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Not very sunny swanage

what size fuel lines are you running? surely if the likes of mat, nic, iain etc havent had any problems with the carb, it would make sense to look at all of the involved parts......

just a thought, have only skim read the thread so it may have already been posted!!

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

I have a float bowl extension fitted and the only thing I can think where it has made any improvement is in hot starting as there is more volume of fuel to evaporate.

Other than that, there's no real benefit IMO and the next time the carb is apart, it's coming off.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.
