I'm currently trying to convince the missus to change her Fiesta for a Porsche 911 (964). You can even get child seats. £15k for good one £20k would buy you a 993 of a fantastic 964.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

964 have some problems, be very careful. If the engine hasn't been rebuilt in 80k miles then budget for a rebuild .. which can be up to £3k. Any with oil leaks or knocking from the rear suspension walk away from.

That said if you get a good one they are a lot of fun and probably the safest of the air cooled 911's handling wise.

The 993 is a wet dream on wheels .... why oh why I ever sold mine I'll never work out! Must have gone mad or something.

The 944s2 is also worth considering as it has to be considered amongst the best handling cars of all time ... if not #1.

My misses has had our's sideways in the wet at 145mph and didn't even have to work at getting it back in shape it was so easy, she can drive though ... just not reverse park!

I'm in the process of learning all about the 964s.

The reason for chosing the 964 is it's a classic(ish) shape which is what she wants, but it has power steering and nice 4 wheel drive (the 4s any way).

I suspect finding the right one might be a trawl though.

Wil if you want any Porker info just ask mate. I grew up with them as my uncle ran a dealership!

May I suggest you join "The Independant Porsche Enthusiast Club" (TIPEC). They are a lot friendlier than the Porsche Owners Club Of Great Britain.

There are a few specific problems to look out for on the 964, namely those I mentioned and the fact that most of them have been off the road at some time in their life!
