Hello fellas,

I snapped a 3rd gear tooth off a tran x gearkit, while I clearly haven't for the torque of the turbos, I do a fair few miles and I don't drive it gently.

Have been running a jack knight involute dog box for 2500 miles now, just split the engine and the box is absolutely spotless, looks like new.

I've always found it easy (and made it look easy apparently) to drive the dog box and wouldn't go back now.

I like the look of the swifty box, but if i'm honest face dogs put me off a little bit - they're going to take a hell of a battering, much more so than the involute dogs of the jack knight.

Have a look on the jack knight website, they've got a special offer on at the mo - 841 quid for a 4 speed dog gear kit.

Cheers,
Dan

That doesn't include VAT but I would consider it to be a fit and forget item....with the exception of changing the layshaft once a year.

If you could ever get your hands on a jack knight 6 speeder I would at any cost. My brother runs one and it is an awesome piece of kit, the layshaft runs the entire length of the box from end to end, through the centre web, is about twice the diameter of a standard one and runs on roller bearings.

wow now your talking, but i think it might be just out of reach for me at the mo, how ever it would be good as a possible 140+ mph could be on the cards, how cool would that be!

what gears ,,rpm,, and wheel size are you running to get to that speed ?
must be using 2.75 gears and big old wheels and high revs in the 7k range i guess ?good for you.

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Steve, that means (assuming that you are running a 2.95 final drive and 1:1 drops) you are going to have to be able to pull about 6750RPM in top ..... that would be a seriously impressive engine!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

With a 3.11 FD, 1:1 drops and 165/60x13" tyres, mine would pull 7500rpm down a slight incline, and 7000rpm in less than 1 mile from standing start.
7500rpm was actually my Crane Hi-6 imposed rev-limit at the time..

140+ is perfectly possible.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
