got a good bit of work done today, the new pulley and trigger wheel is mounted with the modified radiator bracket, just needs tidying up and painting before it can be fitted properly. its an incredibly tight squeeze with the extra width of the trigger wheel but it just about fits with some grinding here and there.
i have some hose barbs ordered so i can get a vac take off on the inlet, then i can bolt the supercharger in properly.
once all that is done i can get the fuelling sorted.
cheers
Dan :)

heres a couple of pics showing how tight the clearance is down there.
i am thinking that i may be able to get a bit more on the bottom of the fan cowling where the mounting bolt goes through, as this is the tightest part.

almost everything is now bolted up, except the carb needs to come out again, because it leaking fuel from the base plate all over the place :( i am guessing it needs a rebuild. hey ho, that will teach me a lesson for not doing it.
need to sort a few hoses and tidy the engine bay up but its basically there now, it will be done in time for castle combe for sure :)

some things in the pic are not properly sorted so it looks a bit rough but you get the idea :)

got it started today! managed to reapir the carb by replacing the scabby seal around the base plate (it fell apart when i removed the plate!) now holds fuel fine.
i have got it running on the choke, and it will rev slightly but then splutters and dies, no worries though, i havent even touched any settings on the carb yet!
it showed about 3psi at very light throttle, 8). Can't wait to get it running better, then over to the rolling road for a set up, then castle combe :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Well done,

Good luck on the rollers, It'll be interested to what she makes. And more importantly how she drives compared to the weber set-up.

hoping for more power but more importantly more torque and for more of the rev range, we shall see.

lol, it will mean radiator out, engine mounts undone, engine supported and radiator mounting bracket off, just to do the fan belt. bugger!

not a happy bunny :(
decided to start it up today and get it warmed up, put some oil in the dashpot and it ran much better, then mayo starts coming from the rocker cover, so switched off, off with the cover and confronted with shitty watery oil :(
did a compression test just incase (clutching at straws!)
got 10 bar on 3and4 9.5 bar on 2 and only 8.5 bar on 1 :(
off with the head and lots of may around the gasket at radiator end..
seems i was not meticulaous enough in preparing mating surfaces as there was a small bit of carbon there, i guessed that was the cause, so cleaned up head and block so they were perfect, new head studs and nuts and new gaskets, torqued down as per hbol. and refilled water. started up again to see what happened and water pissing out of top hose, it was done up tight so i guess the coolant system was being pressurised, seemed to run ok though ????
anyway, more mayo under the rocker cover cap and the same results on another compression check :(
maybe the head is warped? not sure, but i don't think i will be driving at combe this year.
i have decided to pull the engine, and change the pistons/ get a new head to lower the compression properly without a decompression plate, plus a few other goodies and get it ready for next year :(
will start a new roject thread when i get underway...
cheers
Dan

Unlucky mate, often the case with decomp plates though as getting a good seal across the two gaskets is always a problem.

Just a thought .... did they give different torque values for use with the decomp plate ....... they should have done if they have developed the conversion properly!!!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

i think they gave a figure of about 60nm although i thought that seemed a bit low seeing as hbol gives one higher, i went for the hbol figure, perhaps that is where i went wrong, could you explain why the torque figure would need to be different with the plate? i don't understand!
cheers

well it must have been the decompression plate..
i really want to go to combe, so over the last 2 days i haved converted back to the weber, changed oil, flushed engine and changed oil again, its running sweet as a nut!
i will get it rr'd and enjoy a bit of track action before the year is up.

Get Benross to scoop the chambers on your head and get it all back together.

In fact I have a 28cc head you can borrow if you come and fetch it.....

only got 9cc pistons though, i was going to buy a nice big chambered one from benross the other day, but i screwed up the calculations for the cr. it would still probably be too high even with the big chambers, i need to get bigger dish on the pistons too.
thanks for the offer though :)

What CR are you going for? How much boost you aiming at and what sort of cam profile is in there (sorry if I've missed that info already).

Do you have any information what sort of intake temps your going to get?

I take it your going mapped ignition on this motor (again I appologies if I've missed the info)

Sorry to hear about the gasket failure mate.

Had my fingers 'x' for you. But shit happens and all that.

I'm sure the next evolution will work a treat.
