I am in the process of lightening my front subframe for the racecar right now.

I am going to run bump stops on the shocks, so dont really need the mounting place for them on the tower. Could I safely remove that area (outside of tower)completely you think?

Also, I know the miglias run with a very steep angle on the top arms as they are very lowered. To they prefer this (gives camber gain with compression of course), or would they raise the inner mount of the upper arm if they where allowed?

that is nice, but I am going to run with the rubber cones, so it is not really much help.

This is what I mean:

currently my subframe looks like this:

and since I dont need the bump stop on the frame, I could remove that area completely (like I have already).

my question is then, would it weaken anything if I cut it like this instead?

(along the line of the measure stick).

And of course give it some strength back by welding in a thin strenghtening rib across here (along the stick)

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

well, its done now. The frame is about 1 kg lighter than it started out now, and I have not yet used the holesaws:)

That will be tomorrow.

I have almost decided to move the upper and lower arm mountings upwards, to get better angles on them on the lowered racecar.

leeds/wakefield.

Andre,

you will have to make up some method for bump steer adjustment if you are relocating the top inner pivot,

good point, which I only just now discovered. That together with the very good point of leaving things as standard as possible for racing, for easier replacement options, have now made me decide not to move them.

well, I have now removed an honest 1750 grams. The larger pieces have been on the scales, the rest is calculated using steel density and volumes calculations.

That looks good.

I'm half and half considering doing this to my front frame. Has anybody had any trouble at MOT time with a frame like this??
