Methanol..... Safe as you are. Blindness is caused by drinking it, you oxidising it to methanal (formaldehyde) which then attacks your retina. Methanol itself is not that bad, it's formaldehyde in your blood which f's you up. The calorific value is lower and you require high fuel loads and big boosts to make it work properly. The snag is that you are nearing the volume of the fuel getting towards hydraulic locking. Methanol also is more "reactive" than Ethanol with things you don't want it to react with. In my opinion, ethanol is only a fuel for yoghurt weavers, you want to take advantage of the cool burn with an explosive to bring up the dHc (eg nitromethane). Ethanol doesn't give you this leeway. There is also the buggering about of duty/etc. I'd rather run something like home spun avgas which is pretty possible if you can be arsed. Bugger off, I'm getting there. |

I got a sneaky peak under Matt's bonnet at MITP and there was no shock, just a faithful 5 port A series. Only change I could see from the last time I saw it (years ago) was a differnet colour head (might be mistaken ... has been a while), MegaJolt ignition and the NOS set-up.
Every day is a school day ...........

I must admit that nothing would convince me to run a fuel that I couldn't get easily within a few miles of any major town as I'd always be running out! How about a big fuel tank?? |
