OK well that could be a concession to road legality then! At present there is nothing. But it wouldn't be hard to sheet it in if required.

i have to be honest i was pleasently suprised when tom turned on the wiper at avon, i thought the whole car was a bare shell with an engine, but if that bonnet was glassed over then it would be legal

you dont need to worry about emissions with the age it is do you?
But saying that mine came in way under what it needed to be, so with injection you should be even better

Will be interested to hear what's up with your h.gasket
The first KAD head we ran on the moggy had probs with gaskets
[to be fair it was one of the first heads, I think they changed foundaries cos of material quality issues , swapped us for a new head in the end ]
When fitting new gasket we used to warm the motor up for a minute or so Dry 'till the head was hot running temp to touch, then let cool right down [ about an hour ] and retorque . the hour is spent removing bits to get to the head bolts !
Bloody laborious but it worked . A trick learned for the old wet liner Renaults.
Don't know if its true , but it's meant to allow the coating on the gasket to make a better seal around the water gallery holes ?

We also run with some ceramic sealer in the coolant , Yank stuff that KAD stocked

Have you guys tried Hoozier Autocrosser tyres on the strip , they are road legal but so bloody sticky they banned them from roadgoing classes in hillclimbing , some people thought they were as good as slicks

I'm halfway through removing the head at the moment, need a 3/16 allen key mounted in a 3/8 drive socket to get the cam carrier bolts out really, as the normal allen key I have won't reach properly and I don't want to round them out. I've ordered one this afternoon so as soon as that arrives I'll have the rest of it off and report further.

Some different tyres are on the cards, depends mostly on funds to be honest, its not doing so badly on what we've scrounged for nowt so far!

Sorry , TD range of what ? Tyres ? I only know them as Autocrossers , at least I think thats what it says on the side , got an old set somewhere in a shed , will have a look next time I get that far into the pile of shite I seem to not be able to let go of !

Don't know what cooling set up you've got , but we don't bother with mechanical water pump [ prob just cavitates at 9000 rpm anyway ] We use a Corley Conversions electric pump on seperate switch , nice electric fan on seperate switch .
Pump on , no fan when on track . Pump and fan on when finished run , leave both running for few minutes after stopping engine to prevent any sort of heat sink into the head .
The Corley pump is next to no weight , 25 litres / min capacity on next to no amps , bloody marvelous !

It does use an electric pump, a Bosch unit I believe, Carl knows more about it. The cooling fan is controlled by the all singing and dancing ECU which controls at which temperatures the fan switches on and off. At present the pump runs when the fuel pump runs, but plans are afoot to change this shortly to let it run on after the engine has stopped as you describe.

My car doesnt have a boot floor. Is it a fact that its needed, or is it really down to the MOT tester, I cant find anything about it in the mot guide online.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

i think its debatable as its within 30cm of suspension point mountings.

i think the majority would mind as long as its been sensibly done and hasnt compromised the strength.

lots have gone through without them bud...

Also, think about all the road legal bike engined minis. I'm sure it's got something to do with having them separate from the cabin, hence needing the rear seat structure.

I could be talking shit again of course...

I think if you have a rear subframe, the boot floor may be needed in parts, but a lot could be cut out.

As for the DON, the suspension is all mounted differently, so shouldn't be a problem. Think of roadgoing rear bike engined minis.

Head gaskets...

Have you ever tried the steel shim MLS gaskets ? if so...any good ?

Cometic do list them for an A-series, and I know that on most other engines, MLS gaskets are light years above composite gaskets in terms of sealing.

Also, have you considered bigger studs ? if not using some already.
