Alot of it depends on your top speed, the metro goes like stink as does the Mini having 216 banannas!

So are we talking keeping it flat over Avon in fourth?, I dought it!

I bet alot of "normal minis" dont hit 90 on the track!

I'm listening to all the advice I can get. First race soon, rather be last & have fun than to try and be a hero with a smashed car.
Its other peoples safety as well as your own.

Are you guys really having to get your braking done before Avon???

My rev limiter (soft) is at 7000 (3.44 diff)and I am on that as I sweep across to the left for Avon then it needs to be maximum braking until the turn in point with a down change to 3rd, holds on well for Quary with just a hint of the tail coming loose then need to grab 4th again at Apex as I am back on the limiter imediately after if I don't.

I can't work out how I can do that if Jon F is saying to be off the brakes by the time you pop over the rise?????
Ok sticky 13" rubber (treated 048r softs) and big brakes (rover 214 discs (10.2") mounted on one off bells with radial mount willwoods so I can shrug the speed off but still doesn't explain it all .......

If I can get a day on the car before Combe I will bring her along ...... hasn't tuned a wheel since combe action day 2005 ..... bloody houses!!!

Remind me again, where did you crash the Dutton?

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Into the wall at Quary!!!!!

LOL

I came ove the rise commited as always to find somebody in a westfield facing me having a rather interesting accident all on there own.

I'll be honest and say that I should have probably waited a couple of extra milliseconds before hitting the brakes hard to make sure the car was settled but that way I'd have probably of contacted muppet boy and that would have been a much nastier impact than broadsliding into the wall. Still a very bent car though, unfortunately the same problem as has slowed the Mini progress down (bought a house that basically needed everything) has meant that she is still stitting where I stripped her a few years on.

I guess there is a lesson there, why Rob pointed it out no doubt, that no matter how capable you and your machine are there is always one person in each session (probably more the way they pack them on the track at action days) that is going to make an attempt on your life!!!!

To be fair, Tom's description of braking for the rise in the pug isn't far off what I do in the VWs as they aren't as direct as the Mini.

As far as pictures of the car are concerned the answer is very few and then only those that I had to have taken for the agreed value.
The problem there is my photography ability is lagging greatly behind my advanced Chinese lanuague skills ... ie. no existant plus some. Everybody has something they just simply can not do .... for me it's work a camera!!!! I litterally can't take a picture to save my life!!!

I'll get my better half to take a few next time we're with the car (lives at my mothers as I have run out of room here with the project cars).

She really isn't that special in all honesty, just a 1380 NA Mini with coil overs, well chosen 13" wheels and some nice brakes (Pug 106 rear calipers by the way .... very easy to make fit due to being effectively radial mounted...). There is nothing particularly radical there by todays standards ... I originally built her to replace the turbo Mini whilst I rebuilt her (in 2001) ..... sadly neither have had much done to them since!

Anyway, that is well OT ... I'll put some pictures up in the show us yours section when I get some. Might have the car at combe .... so long as there are a few hours to check her over between finishing the new kitchen and the day.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

John demonstrates the benefits of taking a slightly less aggressive line through Quarry.
