As for the hole in the A-casing....

Id say yes, it would be a potential weak spot.

But given every time I split my engine/box my A+ 3 hole casings had cracked in the same are.....who says if the A+ is any stronger..
Id say I went through 6 or 7 casings in total due to cracking, as I did replace them everytime.

Vegard is the man to clarify that - but the headset gear breakages that seem common on the A+ gears don't seem to occur on the A- stuff.

Of course it 'could' be that the lack of sufficiently large data pool makes it appear the A- stuff is stronger? Maybe? LOL

I think this is a valid point. There has been loads more A+ gearbox`d engines than As. Maybe it's just down to this. All I know is that Mark's gearbox survived, and is still in use. The teeth are "straighter" on the A+ but then again the root area is smaller. Who can test?

I've remember talking about subaru gearboxes with a friend a while ago. He told me that he was going to ad a girdle around his gearbox to stop the linear forces deforming his gearbox casing.

So far for my memory... I cant find any info online

The gearbox in my 1300 is pukka too, and that has been there since 1973.
Doesn't mean shit. I've owned cars for seven years that have been driven 0km...

why about cryogenics to the gearbox? i have seen people use it on gearboxes and some drag bike engines its prolongs the life of the engine/gearbox and makes it alot stronger anyone on here done this???? would be quite good to try

I think that theory is them clutching at straws. Even Andy Forrest is using a standard casing, and hasnt had any issues with his..

Well, until recently. He has exploded the centre diff casing a few times this year. But pretty sure he is one of the only people to do so.

As for the cryo treatment. While postage to the US might be hassle, I think www.sixspeedsinc.com charged me something like $300-350 to have my T56 gears cryo treated.
