I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Now the garage ban has been lifted, me and John have been out fixing some niggly little things.

We put a new dizzy in and re fitted the ellectroic ignition module. It will go up hills without dieing now. *happy*

The rev counter works again. With a new cable, the speedo works and John fixed ordomiter. The radio is back in again too.

Had to change the speedo cable to get the speedo going, so the radiator had to come out. It's never been that efficient - gets really hot on the motorway. So I'm going to fit a metro rad up front. I've got all the bits lieing round so I should just have to make some brackets, trim the front panel slightly and do a bit of wiring. Piece of cake... *oh well*

Been having a fiddle.

The rad is in and the plubming is half done.

Just need to put the header tank in, fit and wire the fan, fit the metro thermostat cover thingy and make a top hose up. *happy*

How many bananas will no mechanical fan save me??

The front mount rad is finished.

The fan is a tight squeeze but it just fits...

I've been messing round with the hoses. It turns out that a standard metro hose set fits nicely, with about 4" cut of the metal pipe.

The expansion tank is screwed to the bit between the inner wing and the bulk head.

It's a tight fit, but it sits in suprisingly well. All the metro cut outs making it fit on the mini.

Appart from the fan and crappy rad bracket, it almost looks as though it's how they should have come out of the factory.

This afternoon I took it for my first propper drive in 18 months. I'd forgoten how much fun it was to drive. *happy*

It used to run realy hot at motorway speeds, so I had a run down the M1. Cruising at an indicated 70mph, 4000 revs, the temp gauge didn't move from the half way point and it didn't climb much sat on the exit slip road. And it didn't break down, which is always nice. *smiley*

I had most of the parts lieing round, so it's only really cost me about £30 for the fan and some antifreeze. Money well spent IMO. *tongue*

We noticed the other day that the air box I was using in the pic above was feeding hot air into the carb - not good!

So I've fitted a MG metro one which has the air feed on the right and a nice length of pipe which feeds cold air from the front.

It's running really well, so I'm going to start putting some miles on it now *happy*
