Looking good. Unlucky fault with the head, was it a casting fault or just unlucky with the grinder.

Good luck.

Shame about the head, but looks like you have a good one now.

Did you get any power figures before the failure?

man you've had some serious back luck havn't you!

What sort of power are you expecting from the charged motor? what sort of boost will you be running from the SC12?

That head was a shame Luke, Ade mentioned there was something wrong, last time I was in.

Bet you cant wait to get it back it will be good to see the power figures now you have an good head and on a 1100? should be serious compared to my 998.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Hi
Will, I think it had just been overskimmed and was too thin at that point and that’s why it burnt through.

Andy, unfortunately we didn’t get as far any power runs. Hopefully next time!!

Prawn, I’d be happy with about 1oo brake at the wheels, but any more would be a plus, boost should be between 7-10psi I think.

Graham, yeah I’m getting a little frustrated with it now but it should be good when it’s finished, so far Ade’s been brilliant I can’t fault them at AB’S. I’ve just got to get it back together and booked in.

7-10psi with bens standard pulley dependent on the revs.

I would say your doing well to hit 85 ATW.

Well a bit of an update on this as its been a while

The last rolling road we did went really well and we left with a working car for a change:) as it was a new engine we didnt push it too hard and just sorted the fuelling and the ignition, and we were due to go back to get a power run after its all been run in!!.

It sailed straight through its mot with no real isues at all which i was more than a little glad about being as this is the first car ive ever really put together from start to finish.

So now we had an mot and tax shortly after, all we had to do was get some miles on the engine! *happy* the first and unfortunatly only show we've got to so far was Gaydon and we were parked on top of a hill out of the way :$ well on the way home i think we had done a little over 350 miles in total before things started to go rather wrong.

It started stalling at junctions on the way home and the solenoid gave up the ghost so i we had to jump start it whenever it stalled this got worse untill we just gave up and got a big truck with flashy lights to take us home.

Anyway i pretty much just got it dropped of at my lockup and didnt touch it for a little while as i was just too busy.

I finally had enough spare time this week to have a good look at it and it didnt take long for me to decide that the crank thrusts must have gone but i couldnt work out why??

WELL ive pulled it all apart now and here are some pics. its a little messy.....

It seems that the location slot in the centre main strap wasnt deep enough and under hard use enabled the thrusts to spin and basically wreck the crank and the block ive pretty much deemed it as being cheaper to get a new block and crank and start over as quite a lot of metal has been lost on the block face, and i would need massivly oversized thrusts which i would have to get made.

So with that on thursday night i posted on here for a short engine and this morning i picked one up. (cheers Anton)
Its now all stripped and ready to go to the machine shop on monday to be over bored for my newish 350 miles old pistons and i think i will get the crank freshed up and balanced.

oh something else i noticed when i too the gearbox of *surprised**surprised*

its now bin fodder and i will be checking the next pickup pipe to make sure this doesnt happen again!!

hopefully i will have it back on the road again sometime in mid september.

i just have one question though, with the rings having been used now for 350 ish miles would i be better off getting new rings or will i be okay using the current ones??

this is how the car currently stands

it does feel that im going backwards a little, although its was great fun whilst it was working *happy* boost is seroisly addictive!!

thats all for now

Yeah i think im going to basically start again ive got the new block and crank sorted and ive ordered new rings and gaskets etc i just going to wait and see what bearings i need based on the crank re-grind.

i should have all the bits in the next few weeks, then the rebuild can commence!!
