I didn't tell anyone I was getting married , not even family.

Went to North Devon , stayed with best friends [ who were witnesses] , Wine and chips on the beach the night before .

Went to registry office , then down the local pub with our mates .

Bloody brilliant time , no hassle , no pressure ,

I sometimes wonder why people put themselves through the ringer ?
Ask yourself what your wedding is about

I do understand it must be lovely to have a relaxed no nonsense wedding that was all you ever wanted.

However, (and I'm certain Alex will agree) ours was exactly what we wanted, a celebration to boot, but most importantly, I don't think we lost the point of why we were doing it.

I'm not making any judgements ,

Just pointing out it doesn't have to cost / ruin anyone financially

I think there is far too much pressure on people to HAVE THE PERFECT DAY ,

Not everyone needs a' HELLO ' wedding

I couldn't agree more. Shame the other half doesn't see it that way.

I would have happily gone down the registry office and then a buffet down the pub. No point me having an expensive ring, i will probably just leave it in an engine!

It's ok, I wasn't getting defensive. Just I suppose I stand up for the 'white weddings' where the woman DOESN'T turn into a bridezilla before the big day, iykwim :)
