thanks 1380 ,thats v interesting 40 bhp losses is about double the normal mini losses ,do you have a dragging brake ?

also looks like theres a lot more revs available that you've graphed looking at the way the power curve is still rising off the screen .

Working up the BHP ladder.

The revs on that graph are about 300 rpm out as the induction clamp broke so we used my rev counter to calibrate the rpm. Still the power figures are correct.

As for the 40bhp loss i'm not sure what is normal. No dragging brakes as far as i know.

It was overfuelling at the top end to compensate for that blip at the lower end of the graph, there may be more RPM/Power available but it didn't seem to want to get there so we didnt push it.

However since clamping that pipe the care is totally different. When it gets back on the rollers we should get it spot on.........if the clutch holds!

matt, normal losses on a sun ram 12, which i had calibrated a month or two before the test ,where 26 bhp on a heli box ,and 20 bhp on a straight cut ,with falken tyres and at around 110 mph ,

the higher the mph the higher the losses ,and lower mph would have lower losses .

thicker oil tends to give higher losses ,so the warmer the engine the lower the losses ,vizard talks about 18 bhp as a reasonable loss on a straight cut .

the higher the tyres are pumped up the less the losses ,and the less tread on the tyres also less losses
.
the lowest losses i ever had on my rolling rd ,where a 1969 cooper formula 1 car ,with a rear engined v8 alfa engine and straight cut everything .,it had 15 bhp losses .
