Reliability - having said that the Don has no issues but mine was long cam when a road car and it was forever throwing timing discs and bottom pulleys but then that was early days for after market EFI & Minis

However. I cannot see any performance gain in going short. Possibly better room in the engine bay.

I guess you're right. Having the cam pulley on the inside of the damper is bound to be a better solution. Still, no HP gain though *wink*

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

cheers for the link. problem with gates number though is its rubbed off on my belt. On a separate, note, what thickness gaskets are you using Carl. Last one I had was a 60 thou 5 layer cometic as compression was a touch high.

i'm sure if you were to put the damper bolt in as i do ,you too would have had no problems,

The Hg on the don now will be 1.6mm , as ive lost 0.5 through two clean ups, putting the cr somewhere back to where we first built it,.

KADs last long cam head bottom pulley arrangement was different to the earlier ones in that the outer belt pulley section bolts direct to the crank. Machined as a one piece. The centre of the mini damper is machined out to suit. Bolted on with a lot deeper bolt.

Earlier ones just bolted to the outer side of the normal damper/pulley, just about hanging on.

I know because I had to uprate mine from the flat teeth belt to rounded HTD profile as there was a nasty potential issue with the teeth jumping on the belt on turning the engine over on startup.

Still came loose had that one - I am running the first short cam carrier ( it came off of the black demo car in Feb 1999) - had no problems since!

for anyone interested, heres the major difference between the long and short cam carriers on a KAD head....Its 65mm different. Pulleys are smaller too.

Its not quite a chop job either, as the right hand (from front) cam carrier cover stud drillings are in a different position.

Nice *smiley*

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.
