Pete,

As Tom has already suggested, PM someone in your area to see if they can have a look/listen......

Detailed diagnosis over the internet rarely works out well.....

appreciate that, but id still like to get to the bottom of it if anyone has had that problem before. Is it worth putting the poppet valve back in?

Where did you get the dump valve from. It looks very similar to the one from Minispeed. Mine would'nt dump when expected either, until I drilled the brass fitting in the black sandwich plate 1/8" now it dumps just fine.

i got the dumpvalve off ebay. when you say drill the sandwich plate. that means nothing to me - could you possibly describe in stupid person terms!! Is this the brass fitting where one side goes to ecu (that im having blanked off) and one goes to the actuator???As i dont have my d/v plumbed into anything near that. mine is plumbed directly into the inlet manifold vacuum.

just for info i removed the whole unit today and am going to strip it down and put in a rebuild kit.

Bingo! Where the blue pipe attaches to the inlet manifold. If you remove it and drill the brass fitting the dump valve will react faster.

ah ok, follow you now. How far to drill out? What size drill bit?

Just for info, have the turbo unit on my bench. Havent begun to strip it down, but the turbo unit runs totally freely, there is no play in the shaft. Am i wasting my time stripping it down and putting this rebuild kit in or could there be potentially something internal that is causing my high pitched whine?

Also, have bought another complete turbo unit. If the rebuild kit doesnt solve my whine, im going to fit this other unit to see if i still get the whine.

Will be stripping down the first unit tommorrow - is there anything in particular i should be looking out for that may be causing my high pitched whine?? (im already well aware of marking shaft positions for balancing etc.) any suggestions would be greatly appreciated though. thanks guys
