As above - very impressed, they were happy to take the time to explain things to a novice, they seem genuinely interested in what they were doing and i wouldn’t hesitate in using them again.

Was a pretty cool weekend, well done to iain for organising. Wish my car could have been there but it's a bag of shite and is sitting in the garage until it learns its lesson.

Just about recovered from the hangover now, i think i'm slightly out of practise..

The other thing is that the figures were believable.

No Baldwin style figures to keep the clients happy, but good honest data.

I noticed this. Comparing Jimsters figures with those of the 16v dyno shoot out in feb, and Roberts disgust at the way the flywheel figures were calculated then *hehe!* the numbers are not far off at all. Certainly not Baldwin amounts *hehe!*

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

:$ *hehe!* *hehe!* thanks colin ...er.. i think !lol

i liked this rolling rd , superflow have a good reputation ,and the coast down method of assessing losses is better, in my opinion .

if the coast down is measured before all the runs take place ,then the tyres will be cooler and so the losses may be less than they would be on the runs themselves where the tyres get hotter and so losses increase ,but in this case ,with a single roller , i think thats less of an issue than with a twin roller where the tyres get hotter .

it would be a diferent case if the tyres were sprayed with glue to make them stick ..then the losses would have to be recorded for each run .

as an example , i had the 500cc bike on the rr ,it put out 115 at the wheel ,and 135 at the crank , i then sprayed the tyre and got 98 at the wheel and 135 at the crank .if it had been using the pre recorded losses methos ,it would have had 98 at the wheel and 118 at the crank ..so in conditions where the grip and drag on the roller change ,a coast down is needed each run .

im pretty happy with the accuracy of these figures give of take the usual 2 or 3 %.

i found the staff there at N.M. really good ,approachable ,informed ,and patient ,much like the chaps at the first dyno shoot out for efi ..there seemed to be a lot of time to let us all have a few runs and try to acommadate each cars peculiarities, and a lot of care went into connecting up the lambda and boost take offs .all much appreciated .

only one thing id change , much bigger fan at my intercooler hieght !!*happy*

I founded it quite amussing that they had to put a large trolley jack onto the exhaust extraction pipe. some of the more powerfull cars where blowing it of and pushing it a few feet accross the workshop *hehe!*

A few years back my car was doing the same on the rollers, so they got the apprentice to put his boot on the pipe, which of course melted instantly *happy*

sounds like i missed a really good weekend but unfortunatly i had to work. some good write ups here and Robert's was especially interesting as we do very similar 1/4 mile times. looks like my cars about the same weight so probably about the same power

this just added to my brown pants moment, big backfire as it hit the limiter and a feck off flame shooting out the back as the extraction pipe shifted to the back of the garage!

Can remember seeing the flame Mark. Hell of a crack. Thought something had bust til I saw the pipe fly across the workshop floor !

My car had blown the probe out the exhaust giving a dodgy lambda reading! All good fun though! my wideband shows a totally different log for the fuelling!

Is anybody going to have a go at writing something for the front page of the site about this?? Would be the perfect story for it - loads of turboed minis, loads of power and a forth coming mag feature...

Hi Guys

Marc from Minimag here, the journo who was at the RR day at Northants Motorsport the other week (the one looking a bit rough and moaning cos he had a bit of a headache!) :(

First of all, thanks for inviting us down for the day. It looks like you all had a good time and were (mostly) happy with the results from the rollers. :)

Second, I could do with a favour re the mag write up. With the noise and trying to catch all that was going on I found it quite hard to get details of everyone's cars, especially specifics of the engines/turbos/boost, but more difficult was trying to eavesdrop on the conversations between each owner and Troy who was working the rollers.

It would be good to include all of your feelings of the day, what you got out of it and such, so with that in mind, anyone who wants to send me a PM with details of your specific engine/turbo/boost set up*, what Troy's advice to you was and your thoughts on the day, please get in touch.

Anything you send, doesn't need to be an essay, just a few lines to sum up the day for you. Hopefully, with that extra info and Matt's excellent pictures we should be able to come up with a cracking report!

All the best
Marc

*obviously, in some cases, like with Mark and Ben, I have pretty comprehensive details of your cars from your mag features, but do give me a quick rerun of what you've got in there, especially if you've changed something since the feature.

PS FAO Matt, if you are reading this and can pss the request on to anyone who may not spot this post, your help would be most appreciated.

OK Marc, will do mate.

Iain - for the sake of waiting a little while to allow the mag to get their copy out, is it worth holding back on a TM front page ? I'm sure if we asked Marc nicely, the mag wouldn't mind us using their article.

Or could we use a few quotes from the posts of TM members on the front page in the interim ?

Just a thought.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.
