to be honest I don't know the height that these will lower to.

for the lengths of spring they say 12" dampers wants a 7" spring so I would guess the 13" needs an 8" spring again I will check the details.

I don't think there will be a problem with payment it's not going to be rushed through. All the dampers are made to order so they will be a bit of a wait anyway.

Whats the most commonly available spring size in regards to the front adjustable coilovers?

And ill be getting the 12 inch rear coilovers and yet to decide on which adjustable fronts.
My only concern with the new design fronts is any issues they might have, a warranty would be a bitch to sort out from overseas with postage and all that.

best_stig I'm not sure about the front springs again it's something I'm going to check.

I wouldn't have thought there would be a problem with them, all I could suggest is waiting to someone has run them.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I'm pretty sure my clubby is on 14" and that was supposed to be the "lowered" set. To be honest i think its a bit high but it doesnt weigh much at the back and has settled.

I never found out if i had been sent the wrong set and i cant be arsed now. it will do for the minute! *happy*

I'll leave this thread alone soon.

What will have the most significant bearing on ride height, shock length or spring length. I have worked out my car is about an inch and a half to 2 inches lower then standard (can't go any lower because of the roads near me).

I appreciate the shock needs to be the right length so it has the appropriate level of travel. I can't decide between the 13" and 12" length shock.

By winding up or down the spring seat adjuster will that enable small alterations in ride height.

The back of my car will also be light, i.e plastic windows. fibreglass roof, fibreglass boot lid blah, blah. Though does have a roll cage.

Any imput welcome
James

have you tubbed your rear arches?

I can't say for certain but I would have thought the 13" would suit a lowered non tubbed car.

I will be back on the case of this again real soon I've just got a bit going on at the moment.

I phoned protec earlier who didn't really have any useful information on which shocks to go for, other then people commonly buy the 12" ones.

What I may do is get someone to measure the current length from the shock tower to the stub axel and simply get the coilover which is closest to that lenght. Annoyingly I'm not going to be able to get to the car before the 6th novemeber now.

The car is now a touch lower then this. I'm debating getting the 12" ones, then, if I can't jack the coils up high enough it I will just have to tub the rear arches and fit some some different wheel arches. I like the look of the car as it is.

Right, due to my ever shrinking bank balance.. I am having to sell my Cooper project... so I will need to change my order from front and rears to just a set of lowered front dampers . Already have a rear set for my clubman.

@andywaller

Some measurements (taken Oct. 2008 in germany)

Front:
length
min. max. diff.
standard: 240 ...... 333 ...... 93 (all in mm!)
lowered: 220 ...... 302 ...... 82

Rear:
standard: 275 ...... 411 ...... 136
lowered: 245 ...... 344 ...... 99

"Normal" ALLOY shocks (not the coilover type)
(distance between the center of the mounting holes)

(Sorry, didn't ask concerning weight)

Last year i heard, that PRO-TECH is seeling the shocks in matching pairs - perhaps of interest if you are buying more than 2 shocks - don't know if it's true.

By the way: What would be postage to Germany?

regards

Hey Andy

You get a chance to talk to the Protech boys about us foreigners :) ?

I imagine trying to arrange overseas shipment and VAT free status might be a pain in the neck.

Cheers, Ted

That would work out really well if ProTech would hand them off to you VAT-free. I'm not sure what the rules governing that sort of thing are.

Cheers, Ted

generally you have to pay for the vat up front and they will bosh it back on your card when you have proof the goods have left the country - the HM customs website has info on this for you

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

Gotcha, so it would be easier if ProTech addressed and posted the packet to Canada, or Germany or what have you. It would be pretty tough for ProTech to show they went overseas if they were picked up in person.

So long as they're willing...

Andy, could you post or PM the phone # and name of the fellow at ProTech you've been chatting with?

Thanks, Ted

Is this going to go ahead? I could do with ordering these in order to get the car ready for the road again.
