MK2 Metro heaters are usually crap. Good flush usually improves things somewhat.

But if you are expecting hot air out of the vents on the dash you will be disappointed as they are fresh air vents.

Get your valve clearences done because they will be costing you a few ponies.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

here is a pic of the valve problom i had on the OE metro turbo head, i've used a spare head which i cleaned up & de-coked/relapped the valves

the motor with the head off

the car in question with my 1988 nissan silvia beind it,
the wheels are just placed next to it to see what they'll look like, the slicks i'm selling are in these rims

plan is to take the dodgy old stickers off, add an intercooler & some ater wetter to help coolent temps, clean it up with a new bonnet as i've fcked up the original & two front wings & she's good to go! oh & the wheels in the pic fitted *surprised*D the wheels are 6.5x13 rears & 5.5x13 fronts*surprised*P i'll paint them silver to kepp it looking pretty standard looking! i have a chap that can flush the old hydrolastic fluid out & replace/re-pump it cheap!
i think its a cool daily anyway!

I like it, but I have to say I'd rather see it stay standard complete with the decals and wheels. The only think I think would look better are the original alloys painted silver instead of white.

the standard wheels on it that are painted white is how it came out the factory! its very original

to be honest i'm unsure about the stickers as i dont want it to attract the wrong attention! i may keep them as in a sence i agree about originality!

the weller wheels i have i'll paint silver, the OE wheels i'll keep standard white, they have all the centrecaps to!

i got a a sports exhaust as the one on it is only 6 month old but the baffles are knackered which is a bit of a pissa *surprised*/

this is the new exhaust

so you guys aprove of my new daily

i plan to sell the silvia after i finish putting new sills & t28 turbo on it! so my metro will be my daily for hopefully many years to come! just been and & bought 4 gallon of waxoyl for it today

the only rust i can find that needs sorting is the front wings & some minor rust on the inner wings that can be sorted when i put new front wings on, i'm going to try to keep the costs to a absolute minimum!!!

the old chap that owned it was a smoker so it needs an industrial clean up iside but suprisingly it only has a couple of fag busrns on the roof lining WTF was the guy doing? LOL

my plan is to refurb the OE head that i've took off as our man benross (steve top man) sorted out some sodium filled exhaust valves & posted them to me, i'll get unleaded seats fitted & then at least i have a good turbo head to keep in the wardrobe ;OP
if it was'nt for your advice chaps i'd get pretty stuck i reckon! i dont have anyone near me that works on thier own cars so dont have enough experiance!!! most peole where i live are cheque-book restorers/tuners & i'm not that in the least & i prefer to learn how to do stuff myself

trouble is i'm damn forgetful!!!!

you can put it on in stages, once you get the 36-1 on the rest is easy you can keep the dizzy in to run the engine till its finnished

bret, i defo need to find my crank pully socket then hey! i have a MR fenton entiprises 36-1 pulley wheel

is it worth the effort to put megajolt on it? do you think?
reliability is the main thing i want for it to be honest! & anything to keep the emissions in check for the MOT man!!!

i've even hooked up the anti run-on valve on this metro! just need to have a mockup of an intercooler! & hoax some tubing & pipes

i got the chance to do a bit on the metro turbo chaps! got my cheapo engine breathers on (£10 for two) & the car seems to be holding idle alot more evenly!
i chose these breathers as i thought they looked sort of standard-ish,

once they get a bit of dirt from my mucky-dannys on them they should look more factory

looking at the engine bay i think my best spot to mount my intercooler is next to the break servo as i have air vents in the bonnet above it!!!

opinions chaps & you can me n critic/advise/laugh at it at curbourgh sprint course

my biggest prob/question is there any problom using small diameter tube too & from the intercooler with ends that increase to the 50mm diameter of the intercooler/plenum pipes?????

cheers all help keep me motivated as i'm doing this in the snow in our entry brrrrrrrr

Yes, it really transformed my Metro. It starts easier, it idles better, it accelerates better, it's more powerful, it's more economical. Ditch the dizzy.

i'll have to leave the megajolt untill i've got the intercooler in thats the priority now, where to put it is the problom?

i've found it easier to put a intercooler in my mini but then i could cut bits off that & i have'nt got much in my mini engine bat at all :/

the metro bay is quite tight for the intercoolers i have on the shelf & i dont want to buy another, i think i'll have to take the slam panel off for a squizz behined the rad see what space i have

i may need to get one of Nics plenums which would make mu pipe routes easier, i'll have to look some more tomorrow, i have seem another metro with the cooler behind the battery/infront of the servo-ish type of position!

once i have the cooler mounted i can route the pipes no probs from there!

worst case scenario is i'll put the battery in the boot & cut the battery tray out *surprised*/ i'm gonna look for pics of metros with a cooler

this is what i'm thinking!

i'll check which cooler i have fits best tomorrow! the rover tomcat turbo & escort rs turbo i dont know which has better flow but as i said before my theory is the rover tomcat one is all ally so should dissipate more heat i spose???

i'll be using ally tubing & silicone connectors 7 mikalor clamps, mikalor are the roght ones for this are'nt they? they look a bit wider to me so thought they looked better ofr the job, i'm only used to jubillee clamps

That is one clean car. Like it alot.

I agree - keep it standard on the outside, it's very cool.

IMO I'd try and shorten those i/c pipes if you're thinking of doing somethin silimar as the i/c in the shot above otherwise you'll suffer alot of lag. In general, every 90 degree bend in 2 in pipe has a 12 inch equivalent length of pipe so if there are 4 or 5 bends then the air has to travel nearly 5 feet to get to the carb !

Plus, fit a DV into the plenum, disconnect the ECU, block off the poppet valve, fit a manual bleed valve and with your i/c fitted, you should be able to raise the boost to at least 8 psi as a baseline to tuning. But this is not a detailed 'to do' list - there's a search button for that.

Also, I'd fit the MJ too as it'll give you so much more flexibility and enjoyment. Keep the dizzy in the hole with the power lead disconnected like I have done with my van. That way, if you suffer a MJ issue or you need to limp home, it's a simple job of swapping the power leads and HT cables over and Bob's you mother brother.

Good job mate.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

That setup above was on a lovely black Metty Turbo with Ronals. He changed from the setup shown to a front mount as this didn't really work.

However, he stuck it where the grill used to be which looked rubbish, then promptly smashed the car up.

Front mounted is the way forwards, must be plenty of space on a Metro. I have a Focus IC which fits lovely on my Sprint, which is Metro like at the front.

Not really. We had to replace the rad on the van with a smaller one so that we could get a descent i/c in. Our MR2 one was a very lucky find.

Escort coolers etc will fit along side the rad, but the pipe runs are awkward because of the coolant hoses. You also have to remove the bonnet catch and on a turbo you have to loose/move the oil cooler. Even then you only have half the i/c exposed to the air flow.

Best option is probably to do what Mayo has done with his. mount it in front of the radiator and move the rad back. You do however HAVE to lose the dizzy in this config.

a bit miffed today! had a fiddle & i cant really get the rs or tomcat intercooler in

you would think there is more space in a metro than a mini but there is'nt, due to the metros superiour aerodynamics haha & the bonnet is very close to the roccker cover which on the mini you can fit a 50mm hosem the metro you cant

the inner wings also intrude a long way so i think i'm going to try to do a complete rip off of what mr bellamy & john have done on their metro van

anyhoo i'll keep you chaps posted, i did a little test run today & it go's well on stock boost! quite suprised how quick actually!
big thanks for your help chaps!!!!
lets find me a motorbike rad & intercooler hey *surprised*P

Don't use a motor bike rad, the pipe in/outlets are much smaller than a series ones so piping up was difficult. We used an MPi mini one in the end with an ebay fan and a inline fan switch.

The i/c is from an MR2, but there are a few different sizes. I can measure ours for you if you like.
