Shanr , tell the wanker sthat unless they come up with a better offer , you will put the whole claim in the hands of a claims managment firm, they will should realise such people will cost a whole lot to them eventually and up the offer,son't forget to claim for timke spend runnnig around , tel calls etc, charge your time to everything,
failing that tell them not to offer you money but to replace your car with like for like, tha again should focus there minds

my brother had an issue with his insurer earlier this year when his car was stolen; the offer wasn't good enough and he pulled out a load of local adverts to support his claim; he ended one of his conversations with 'if you can get a like for like car for the moeny you are offering, you can just drop off the replacement car at my front door'. he got his money in the end as the insurer, although they claimed to be looking at adverts for similar cars, never provided the evidence to support their position

Claims companies charge a fortune so the threat of them should gee them up; don't forget you should be claiming for alternative tranport or a hire car while this has all been going on.

Could you use the cost of the new car as a bartering tool or was it a bargain?

The cheque arrived today, the cheecky c**ts!! Its as if they are trying to buuly me into acepting it!! Ive a letter from my boss staing my loss of earnings and cost, ive a list of ads to send, and two independant valuations. If this proves unsucessfull what are the names of the claims management firms? Im more than happy to threaten and follow up with them!

i've heard good things about these people mate, quite a few people on pistonheads etc have used them. probably good for a threat if nothing else! hope you get something sorted soon.

dont bank the cheque

As said - don't do anything with the cheque. Stand your ground and use the claims management firm if needed. Even calling them and getting a little advice - then call insurers and drop the name...
blah blah blah said ---- etc... will usually get them in gear.

As this it completely not your fault - they are on a loser. I'd also see if local radio or media are interested in - drunk driver means local can't work, provide for the kids - etc... etc...

Have you tried the ombudsman? Aren't they supposed to help out and ensure fair dealings? (Too long outisde the UK - sorry can't remember)
