These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

How can I stop running out of fuel? Also can't do the t piece trick as I don't have the outlet on the carb as its off an earlier mk1 which didn't have the vent valve set up fitted which might now be a pain my fuel pressure is about4-5 psi on idle its funny as its an intermittent fault some times its fine then next run down the road will die *oh well*

think its worth checking the obv 1st so fuel bowl in carb and any filters.

have u got a standard 7.5 gallon tank? the pick up could be shit up, that would give you the correct pressure but obscure the flow at top end

Wintersurfers car was doing just the same as this. We closed the gaps to 20 thou as Joe says and it ran lovely.

Had a similar issue a few years back and it was due to using fuel filters that where too restrictive.

no need for any more than 3.5psi

Have you checked everything suggested above yet?

Done the plug gaps no difference can't do the t piece trick as I don't have the outlet on the carb as its from an early mk1 Iam going to run me fuel pressure gauge so I can see when iam driving What's happening with that then go from there going to put a new dizzy cap rota arm & leads on in case somethings breaking down under load ect even tho me leads look ok no harm in changing them I've got a few spare fpr so I can change it & give them ago got a good fuel pump aswell I can try just collecting options to go armed to the garage with once I get this problem ironed out I be happy as when this thing is working (only on 10psi at the min) iam very happy with the results so far

I'd start with a proper injection spec fuel filter. The little plastic ones are only for standard carbed engines...

His filter will be fine as long as it is installed between the FPR and carb so it only has to deal with fuel the engine is actually consuming.

If the filter is placed anywhere else, it should not be.

it is between reg & carb iam sure them plastic 1s are originally used on the metro turbo as std the thing is it works fine some times so would the filter not restrict the flow every run?

Depends what the filter is doing. If there's some bits of shit blocking it when it's getting pushed hard, then settling down once it's been at rest for a second or two.

I'm fairly sure the pipe runs out of the tank round the front to the filter, then into the pump, then round and into the supply to the regulator.

I didn't think there was a filter under the car? I thought it was just the one behind the heater blower on the bulk head passenger side

That could be a good starting place there andy as I've got a feeling it will of never been replaced as the plastic one I changed on the bulk head was in a pretty bad way to be honest *oh well*
