The scoob wagon at York belongs to David Wallis. it has 562bhp at 28psi on optimax, fantastic bit of kit, all work done by himself with some assistance from his mates.
Some scoobs are more prone to blowing than others, mainly Imports designed to run 100ron fuel. Additional mods can make things worse, or you can be just unlucky, the guy that collected mine said most they pick up for rebuilds are non runners and often in the first few days of ownership, 'the lets see what it can do syndrome'!

Here for the craic..

iam going off wot my mate tells me on the scoobs..as when he was 18! he had a wrx and it had loads of bother whenever he tried to tune it or even when it was standard he had a gearbox go on him.....he has just got rid of a legacy turbo which seemed stronger but was running with an oil leak from day one and it wouldnt select gears happily at highish revs...

all problems where took to scooby dealer and they said there was nothing mechanically matter with the scooby and couldnt work out why......

my mates just got a frogeyed version and he says it gets to 90 fast but its really sluggish after that...and an engine management light or something like that pops up when you put your foot down hard and do some fast changes through the box...dealer couldnt work out why again.

Love it!.....

Getting some good points over. Seems like some people actually know what they on about, that does'nt inlclude you B16-B who has learnt it all from your 18 year old mate.*wink*

I took the time to find IMO a decent UK model with history. There is no way i want to ruin a perfectly sorted car by bunging a the boost up and caining to it's top speed giving it the big'un.

As far as mods go it has had a filter and a pipe, the stainless pipe is a work of art!..It includes the downpipe.

Once i have run it out of fuel(got low) i will fill it up with Optimax and reset the ECU, this then test for knock and adjusts the managment accordingly to protect your engine.Magic eh?

The engine will be treated to top quality oil, plugs etc..

As far as enjoying my New car??..i will!..just sit back on the factory leather seasts at 75MPH @ 3000rpm, cd player on with enough poke to get past the a sunday driver if needed. Also a nice spacious vehical for my Children to be safely transported!!

This car is just another toy as i have a company vehical for everyday work..Maybe i am a petrol head!!..How lucky am i!!

Anyones Mini got a top speed of 143MPH?*wink*

Not very sunny swanage

from what i gathered with my matews impreza, under certain conditions, (a track for example-castle combe) certain models have a fault whereby the oil pump cant supply enough oil to part of the crankshaft, and bang goes one of the big ends...... the owner of the car im talking about is a mechanic and very particluar about the way he looks after his cars, so it was very unlikely to be down to abuse, couple with the fact that it is a known problem (as he found out afterwards unfortunately). the engine was rebuilt under warrenty, (dealer, not manufacturer) with a better oil pump, and is supposadly fine now!

oh, btw, they will do more than 143!!! *wink*

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

Sounds a little like when people don't put centre oil pick-ups in their mini gearboxes then go hanking around Mallory or some massive roundabout and wonder why they have fried the bigends and main.

Good point i will read into it and learn.

And if the body ever rots away.....

Is the gearing longer on some of them then? As my Legacy was all done by a shade over 130mph e.g. run out of gears rather than power?

And I once really upset a bloke in a early impreza in my old 405Mi16 when I drove past him on a section of private motorway.......OK acceleration wise he had me, but the 405 was geared to do over 150mph.......the impreza again seemed to run out of gears?

Interesting to hear about the problem with oil feed to the crank. I can only surmise that in road driving conditions you would be hard pressed to corner hard enough for a long enough duration to cause a problem?

Its the best way to be if you are lucky enough to have the space and money to afford cars suitable for different things.

No matter what anyone says, there is no one car that is suitable for everything you are ever going to want to do, so having a few knocking about to serve different purposes is the way forward IMO!

Thats how I explain having 5 to the girlfriend in any case.....she's not usually very convinced but hey.....

tom, i guess the gearing must be different!??!?! i am no expert on imprezas, only ever been in two, but craigs 555 edition (the one that went bang at combe) will pull to just over 150? obviously only on private roads, but has been followed by my mate on his gsxr 750 at this speed (on the gixxers clock, accurate to within about 3mph at 180-so ought to be nigh on perfect at 150!) and i also sat in it with my old mans gps system reading 152mph! takes a while to wind up tho!!!

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

The gearing on my model is 24.88MPH per 1000RPM so 6000 rpm is just under 150MPH..

I'll let you Know.

As far as a race at Avon goes....Who wants to drive the Mini??

Serious now!
