TBH Vegard, I would not be blaming the strap hear,

I seen this befour, but my finding was that the cap was still Flat as was the strap but the machining was poor on the cap and left a high spot in the ceentre.

What do you think as caused this

I was thinking that flexing between the cap and strap did this, confirming that a strap does not do what we all would like to think it does.

Looks to me like the cap was fly cut and not properly ground flat. Also the bar looks like it was standard bright bar finish.

It has to be done properly or it is a waste of effort.

Nope, not this one as the bearing clearance was spot on.

TBH i would agree with Paul poor machining of the cap and strap lead to fretting I don't think distortion caused this

The ones in Minispares' kit. No hardened washers either. The engine was built in 2004. I've learnt something after this..............

If the omnes supplied with the strap were the 3 dash then this will be the culprit, as they simple are not strong enough,

the cap has been clearly milled off , this is how i use dto do it and no marks like these on any of my engines over the last 20 years,

i now have surface grinding so from now on the two faces will be ground,

I really just dont "GET IT" Why are people so hell bent on disproving the meerrets of CMS.

I think its very simple pick up a standard cap now have a look at the top of the cap

_ __---------__ _ < Are people

seriously trying to say machining off the 6-8mm high lump of casting is going to effect the cap, and then tell me that replacing that with some 20 - 25 mm bar Steel is not going to make the cap more stable but infact through some sort of magic makes the cap less stable.

Lads stop trying to re-invent the wheel Get that caps machined correctly use the right bolts and some hardened steel washers and get on with it.

Paul, the question is more if removing the lump causes more trouble than the straps improves upon.

What about this?

I would say it's a conclusive opinion unless proven.

Fortech strap "looks" good Vegard but am not sure that it will work properly as I doubt it will be in contact with the cente of the original strap where the support is required.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I cannot understand how fitting this will prevent crankshaft flex though.....
