I agree with Rob, it's a shame really that people now have the need to keep what they are doing a secret.

There have been some quite frankly ridiculous arguments on this forum in the past which have resulted in valued contributors withdrawing from sharing and joining in with discussions.

Over the years I have really enjoyed reading all the k-head development threads and the Siamese injection threads (I still fancy a go at this at some point, may have to do it like dan187 and try to get hold of an mpi setup to figure it out).

I don't think it's secrecy but you are absolutely right about the negativity (ridiculous arguements in your words) that makes some of us no longer say what we are doing until it it works.

And to avoid the negativity, some of us now just share information by PM or email with just an occassional mention on the forum.

Sad, but that's the way it is.

tbh there are some very talented people on this forum. i am not really one of them however i have been here a while and for as long as i can remember there is a close network of friends behind this forum that all know what each other are doing more or less as like you say they communicate via pm or email without much updates of the forum. that's not to say its secrecy its just kept out of the eyes.

Obviously from time to time you get a hint of something happening and 5 people know about it and we are all left guessing. can be fun or annoying but i suppose the point is i guess these it can make it pretty hard to get actively involved in the forum also.

i too am guilty of this i guess as a lot of my plans i share with supermotto lee and i dont share here but then i look on it as why should i if everyone else is being so secret squirrel :) plus they are generally stupid ideas that lee has to listen too :p

I think I have TM disease coming out of my ears at the moment. I have so many ideas of new parts to make that I dont have time to make them much less put them up on the net. Youll see them at some point though over the next couple of years and they will be worth the wait

I seriously doubt it!

If not already said before I think some people may be working on new ideas and fabrications but just not feeling the need to share at this point in time.

I'm sure it won't be long before something comes along. I've been browsing old threads for a while gaining information and trying to get motivated to crack on with my build again.

Nothing new and exciting from my rebuild, just busy tinkering in the garage taking my time learning to weld.

Now the showdown's gone I'm just planning on sub 600kg road(ish) car and updating my old std bottom end.

I acheived what i wanted to and found out that a pretty much bog standard 1293 bottom end will happily take 20psi and 200 nana's for a fair few miles. Next one will just be a lighter bottom end and maybe a few more revs/psi

I wouldn't worry about going your own way. It's all very well having no carpets an plastic windows etc but you may be more inclined to actually use the car regularly if it is reasonably quiet and comfy.

Although I'm relatively new to the forum, I was talking to Oli about this he other night. I haven't shared a build thread for a few reasons. My engine isn't gong to really set any hearts racing, and the car itself is nice but not completely different to cars we've seen over the years.
My area that I've spent the time in research and money is the interior, but it doesn't really seem to 'fit' with most of the forum users. For a start its had probably 30kg of sound deadening, with another probably 80kg of audio....... Which is swearing on here *wink*

One issue i have is ease of posting photos. Maybe if it was easier to post photos, we would see more updates?

I'm no techie so i'm sure there are issues with server space etc but i probably see more updates on facespace these days

Get a build thread up, I'd like to see it!

Haven't been on talk audio for ages now since they fucked up the classifieds.

I'm another car audio fan, I don't intend to hide it! But sometimes less is more and quality over quantity. So my build has plenty of different things taken from different breeds and era's of mini :)

I personally think there should be a special area for members only who are willing to pay a fee/high rep on the forum so people can post things knowing that its sort of safe then at the end of the year do a meal of a weekend of antics with the money from it.

I have been wanting to put up a build for my metro but have been slightly reluctant as it is a gay shit car and its not a mini, but I have great fun driving it until it brakes lol. I think sometimes we all need to take a step back, yes some of us have jap/euro/drift/stance cars some love them some don't but we should share them more.

I think we are all just getting old!! As when I was a young spunker I would spend hrs and hrs on the mk1, but now a days I am F##ked at the end of the day. Selling it was mention the other day to go in the house pot. *surprised* but the wife said NO.

This has always be a Very social site and Avon has always been the meeting place for some hard core drink driving lol. I think we have just lost that a little... also as turbo charging a mini looks so easy we are getting lots and lots of lads coming on here looking for all the info in one post!

Matt W / Robert / Nic / Carl / Jim / The twins / team skip and some more lads on here, I see these blokes as the real pioneers of TM things like the Gt17 & RTS is like the norm in most builds out side TM.

I only came on here to find out about Jap alternators and now look what I have got lol.

I echo the above, as each year goes past we all get that bit older and commitments change and so do tastes so things take a back seat, in recent years with the economy being in such a shit state a lot of us have been hit hard, eg I lost my job and have been unemployed now for 3 months just as I started to pull my finger out with the mini, now motivation has dried up and all my time is spent looking for a new job :(

I agree the demise of the showdown is crap, but to be honest it's probably the Internet that killed it off, I can remember going in 1997 and it was huge, all the camping fields were full, the place was chocka. However to me MITP is a good second place, its still a decent weekend bash with a bar on site so I also echo Robs comments above and hope to see you bunch of bastards there!

As for the paid idea above, no and never, TM never has and never will require any mandatory payment, yes donations are of course appreciated, but no form of access restriction (aside from traders) will ever be implemented.

What about july? The avon rwyb event? I'm planning on getting the tro ready for this in its newest guise. I love going to events but always vet gelous when I cant race or have fun because im not in a mini, which is why I liked avon so much and mini world action day as mines no where near ready *frown*. Also having the thoughts of not staying a-series but still turbocharged

I love looking at the build threads, I'm not very experienced so I suppose it's because it's pretty much all new. I would put one up myself, but to be honest I haven't got a lot done, and so far it's nothing special.

Nice to see a little debate and feeling. *smiley* It's been a while since we've had a thread that has had this many posts inside of 24 hours.

Anyway, I'm off back out to the garage to finish fitting the dash in the mini. *happy* Anybody else got the spanners out?

I'll tell you what would give people some motivation - Mr Fenton cracking on with his mini *wink*
