You can use ALS to boost the engine from idle...

I've been in a car that can produce 10psi sitting there at 1000 rpm... the launch off the line from that was asstounding! No I'm not saying you could use that much on a mini, 10 psi is very aggressive.

Running a mild ALS puts you to about 0 on your boost guage still there at the lights... not that I'm sure you could use on mini!!

The bit about the t2 vs t3 was of course followed by a *wink*

mini-3-million-bhp.....or whatever it it

I think what people are trying to point out is that these sky boost figures are not really realistic. For a start, BMEP in the cylinder if you propose to boost to over 2 atmospheres is going to be so high that it will become a problem keeping the piston crowns intact. In addition to this, as boost produced by the turbo increases, you are heating the air. An intercooler can only deal with a certain amount of air. If you run 30psi boost as you state, you are either going to need a fucking awesome intercooler, or else you will make no more power than you would if you used 20psi, simply because the intercooler is unable to remove excess charge temperature, hence your ACTUAL density increase is not as much as you think.

Running high boost pressures is a law of diminishing returns.....running twice the boost does not deliver twice the power increase over the engine running non-boosted!

If 300bhp is really your target then you are going to spend a SERIOUS amount of money trying to extract this from a A series turbo engine. If 300bhp is what you must have, I would think along the lines of a conversion to a Vauxhall twincam motor or a VTEC.

30psi???

ha ha ha, might try and see what 40 does then! If it blows up it blows up. if it don't you'll never know what the engine can take.

My head is 36cc and pistons are 18cc. (I think, going back a couple of years now when I got the engine built). Intercooler takes up the whole grill.

Anyway, hoping to get over 200 'bannanas' with the dizzy, then save up for Omex ignition or somthing and see what that does. If it all holds up try some NOS.

Miniwilliams, I understand you have antilag on your mini, please tell me more.

Cheers, Kev

He doesn't use any kind of anti lag - other than nitrous which is de-activated at 5/6 psi I recall. This is all you need. No fancy stuff to impress folks, but simple laughing gas.

not meaning to doubt your figures there mini300....

but.....

"head is 36cc and pistons are 18cc"

even with no deck volume, no gaket volume and no rindland volume...

I make that less than 6:1 CR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You might be able to run 30psi if it is, but I bet it doent break 180bhp lol

36cc cyl head chamber?

Most of the head work shops struggle to get above 30cc I thought.......

I bought a head from MED with 30cc chambers and it blew into the water jacket....

So the new one they made me was with 28cc's leave some meat in the head and lose it from the pistons, i say.

I've heard 35cc is possible, i'm sure Jukka said he did a head with 35cc chambers, though i might be wrong ?
As for 40psi on an A-series, you won't be the first. But if you want anything to last more than an afternoon, you won't bother.

with 6to1 compression ratio he will need anti lag, or a properly sized turbo, and 30psi to make any power LOL

No offence mini300bhp, rethink your engine plans or you will be incredibly dissapointed with what you spend a few thousand pounds on.

Remember the guys here have done it all before, listen to their advice. What they are saying isnt just for a laugh and they are not "armchair experts". It really is good advice.

Im sure reading a couple of years ago on miniwilliams website his antilag gave him 4psi at idle. look through the vids (side view and 0-60 in 5.3).

As for my head and pistons, as I said, couple of years ago, so dont quote me on it.

Anyay, I came on here to try to find out a little about how to set up an antilag system. No one seems to know how.

So giallofly, tell me how Im talking shit. You know nouthing about my car.

Cheers for the advice boys, RR soon.

I dont want to start an arguement here, but make a few comments.
I am in agreement with everyone, that trying to run anti'lag on a Mini is a bloody daft idea, and will only end in tears.

But I'd like to ask, has anyone tried more than 20psi, or indeed close to 30psi ?

Alex, just read it all again. Found some info, but still need some more.

So here are some more questions for you:

What is a Maram Shaft and what does it do and where do you get one from?

What is a stepper motor?

I did a serch on google many times and found a lot of info, but aimed at cars running injection. All I found was you need to retard the ignition about 30* rise idle to round about 2000rpm and add more fuel instantly as soon as you come off the gas and cut out as soon as you put your foot down to resume normal running.

So, is the only way to instantly retard the ignition an ECU, or is it possable with a dizzy.

What do you think is the best way to add more fuel?

Any help would be great Alex.

To everyone else, please only give me info that will help me rig somthing up. I never came on here for arguments. 30psi ish was just off the top of my head, may be it only needs 25, maybe itll take 35 I dont realy give a shit what psi it is, as long as it has big power.

mini300bhp is only a name. Chill, not saying I've got 300.

Miniwilliams, I know you had or have it on your mini, how did you do it, how reliable is it?

Cheers, Kev

All you need is a rev limiter that will throw as much retard in to stop the revs increasing past a set point. You need one that just retards, NOT cuts the ignition. The fuel will come from the carb. If not enough, pull out the choke. If you want to use an injector, sorce an injector driver like the MF2 whatever from ERL.

There. That's all. Flames and anti-lag in the crudest manner possible.

MW does NOT have 'anti-lag' on his mini... Sorry, my bad - he does. It's called nitrous oxide.

I Like Marmite. I have it on my toast. I like lots of it. I do put butter on aswell. Well, not butter, but utterly butterly. It's a bit like butter, but can spread easier. It comes in a plastic tub, which I keep in the fridge next to my marmite. I Like Marmite. I have it on my toast. I like lots of it. I do put butter on aswell. Well, not butter, but utterly butterly. Read my post and you'll see what it is.

I wouldn't call that anti-lag IMO.
As I've said - the cheapest anti lag you can get is nitrous.

If you want to throw flames out of your tailpipe, there are kits on ebay...
