1330. The only reason its known as 1340 is because some stupid people cant seem to calculate volumes...*wink*

well, 72.5 mm pistons give 1343 cc or there abouts. If people ran that size they could claim they had a 1340, not with 060 pistons:)

Finally got round to buying some pistons from MS Aus.

A set of 1275 +0.020 to rebuild my NA 1275 and some 998 +0.120".

The 1275 are the slipper type.

Cost was about £210 for the 8 pistons, pins, rings and postage. I got stung another £25.50 duty and £13.50 Parcel Farce handling fee. So about £250 all in - Bargain.

A bit more about the 998 pistons in my K100 thread.

Looks like a bit of weight could be shed off the gudgeon pins (or use omega pins)?

It's allright Nic, It's in the context of reducing inertial mass to reduce the stesses on the recipriocating components.
Sorry for the confusion.

1275 +0.20 have an oil slot !?

Is it OK for hi boost though?

First size to get holes instead of slot is +094
I red in a yellow book that you have blowby issues with this size in NA alreay so it will definitely be a problem in blown trim, what are your experience with that ?

I didn't get to find if anyone answerd that simple question :
Is the chrome top ring to be favoured ?

Thanks in advance

Lots of questions, but the reality is that there are no answers at present because these pistons are untested as far as TM are concerned.

A few of us have them sitting on the shelf. I think one or two engines may be running with them, but no real test as yet.

I think they are OK - I've bought a set.

Personally, I would not use slotted pistons on boost, but we know it can be done.

I would go for the larger sizes with the oil holes rather than slots.

I don't think anyone here has experience of running the chrome top ring.

Paul, i hope to be firing mine up in the next week so i should have some results in the next month or so. My pistons have slots and the chrome ring.

Not running daft boost however.

From what i know they are running them in Race Engines with good results.

I think he mentioned the max compression was 16.1. iirc

Yes,

If you go to his web site there is a contact email address, I emailed him (Andy I think it was) and he was very quick to answer and very helpful.

I too have the larger (73mm) with holes, not slots, but "sitting on the shelf" (project is well behind schedule).

I too took the chrome top ring but can't yet comment. My logic was they are believed to be better with high compression engines and although a turbo'd engine should have a low actual compression ratio, when under boost, the implied compression ratio is high.

Just what it says.....

Look at the photos half a page up for slots vs holes. A slot behind the oil control ring makes the piston weaker (in that particular area) than a series of holes.

And a chrome top ring is one made with (or more likely plated with) a chromium alloy instead of plain cast iron. Mechanical properties (esp. wear rates) are different.

so if i am going to run 15psi max boost
will these +060 1098 pistons be ok or not???
and would it better to get hole rather then slotted type pistons
