Yeah I contemplated Slark's but looking at it, Vmax is an extra 2 miles away from my doorstep than SRE is!

I was going by reputation really? I know Stuart must know his way round forced induction mini's, no not sure about Slarks?

I've been to both and they are both very good.

Vmax is obviously very well established with forced induction, but I couldn't fault SRE. Can't remember the guys name but he really knew his stuff.

Hopefully going to make a start on taking the lump out and planning the post mortum for next weekend, will then be able to gauge damage and parts needed, im just hoping its not a huge amount, lol

They came from morspeed not minispares, but will definately be making some calls when they come out of the block!

I have to say your taking this really well, if this happened/happens to me I would be pegging tools around the garage for weeks. I hope you get it sorted!

To be honest Ive had a gut feeling this would happen, so in away have been preparing for it for months, after all its just the last think in a very long list of issues! Im gutted about it, dont get me wrong, moreso that im not going to make the meet that Matt has organised on thurs, and the I wont have the block rebuilt for avon. But Im just looking at it as set back, driving the car is ALWYS worth the expense and ballache!

Afternoon, after thursdays fun up at Brunters with a few of you I came home with a bit of enthusiasm. I pulled my finger out yesterday and pulled the lump from the car and tore it down, the results are what I was expecting, heres some pics

No4 piston, ring lands cracked.
No3 pison, ringland crack, plus a little extra damage, if you look close you may see it, lol.

Suprisingly the bores look ok, there is a small area where some material has been deposited, it does pic off so Im hoping the block can be used after it has had a hone.

Im taking it on tues eve to be checked and machined. Mains and big ends look ok, unsure weather to get crank polished and trhow a new set of shells at it while its out. I also found no3 plug has had the tip melted on it? I havent had the chance to measure ring gaps on the pistons as I cant find my feeler gauges, am curious to see if they are out of tolerance just like Hoggy's were?

That is det, obviously not running right before it was set up and gave it too much beans when it was too hot and lean. Nothing to do with Morspeed's Machine work.

Hopefully you can save the block, expect the bearings will be fine still worth having a look.

Is the head OK?

Will be worth getting the valves re lapped and tested as that molten metal will have passed through them.

Could be worse!

Agree 100% with JF on this DET caused this no Question looks to me like over boost or two much static compression
