Well i've been doing abit of research on the RB20 and it looks like its actually a pretty good unit that is more than capable of dealing with my needs.

Sounds like the suffer from poor oil flow in some cases though which is no different to just about every other Nissan engine of this era. But a better oil pump apparently sorts this out.

I could deal with putting an RB20 in as the insurance will be alot better than a 25. Hmmm we will have to see when this fellow gets back to me! And i get the 6 pot noise as a little bonus....

Bolt is straight in, get a prop sorted for it, wire it up and away we go.

I will keep you informed.

sorry to here about the engine james

just a thought did you strip and clean the oil cooler (top part of the oil filter housing) when you rebuilt it? as they like to fill up with bearing material which will make short work of your new bearings...

oh and stick with the ca!

Then engine was flushed 2/3 times. I didn't actually remove it but there is no debris in the oil.

The thing that is getting me about the CA Is the oil is still golden, no silvering on the dipstick or anything. But the knocking is very loud! I really should strip it down and find out the problem but I've found a decent priced local RB20 now so I think I'm just going to go for the conversion and flog on the useable bits if the CA to recover around have of the conversion cost. Hopefully.

Deposit is down on the engine after hearing it running. This gave me abit of inspiration to crack on with the bodywork so I pulled the bumper off and have been fiddling around with it over the last couple of nights. Couple of last little defects to sort out with the newly blanked off vents, and I've mouted the splitter abit differently to the norm so that needs finalising then it can be hung back in place while I make up a duct for the intercooler and mount that onto the bumper, then the bumper can be painted and it might start to look like we're getting somewhere!!

If it stops raining ever I'll crack on with sanding the boot back to bare metal while it's sat on my drive. Fun times!

Anyway I've bored you enough by now with this non mini project! It's about time I got the last few bars of that climbing frame welded to the inside of the proper car!!

Hmmmm just so as that you know im still around and havent ran away forever (although i am still working on the wrong car).

Well what happened here then!

The CA went bang again. Shot out number 3 big end. Why? I dont know, but im going to put it down to me overlooking something on one of the build ups.

So decided i wasnt going to rebuild this yet again and stripped the engine for parts.

Was debating stripping the shell and breaking it but decided against it. So i was on the look out for a new engine. I prefferably wanted to go with the SR20DET (later model 4 pot turbo lump) but couldnt find one that would work out cheap enough.

Then this came up

RB20DET baby skyline engine

so ive put it in and got it running after sorting the wiring out.

Just need to finalise things and get it MOT'd but im beyond broke at the moment so its just a waiting game.

Oh and also changed the splitter set-up around again.

The RB's only suffer from oil starvation when over revved generally. The RB26 suffers exactly the same issue. An uprated oil pump, and a restrictor between the block and head generally sorts out the problem.

No, but you did chuck your guts up over my front gate the Saturday before! You even managed to get a bit in your arm pit...
