Where was the boost measured? On the tuners equipment or on a gauge in the car or both??

I'd say the rollers are pretty accurate, my n/a engine got 88 banannas and 81 curlies earlier this year, which is about what I expected. On the way home the ignition module packed up outside stonehenge, so I had lots of tourists and vistors laughing at me.

That said, that engine is getting ripped out now for something much more serious.

Nic. You must be the 200bhp one he was wanting to show me on the computer!!

It was read from the boost gauge on the dash and from the lap top he had plugged in.

Mine is currently running just under 5 PSI. The one that Neil tried to show me the graph of was at 20+PSI. Not sure if it was Nics. He wanted to show me it as a comparison

No 18 i think it was

It did 202 on 20 but it didnt look a particularly good curve at the top end

If only the fan could have reached the intercooler.... the intake temp would not have been 94 deg...

The 200 HP mini had 180lbft but much further up the rev range. Also had a 150hp turbo with 140lbft @500rpm. Looking at all the turbo minis on the compter, the charger setup as is has almost 20hp more than any turbo below 3500 rpm

The 5 psi confuses me too.

I hope I got this right; but a theoretical(!) calculation on an M45 shows me:

M45 flows about 750cc / rotation
Pulley diameter Mpi:113mm
Std M45 SC pulley: 75mm
Crank to SC ratio = 1,507

SC output: 1,51x750=1130cc (flow per crank turn)
Extra flow/crank turn: 1130-646,5=483,5 (I am building a 1293; 1293/2=646,5)
483,5/646,5=0,75bar = 10,8psi

This is all theoretical!
No compensation for leaks in SC, losses on the way, valve overlap, etc.

But I would think your more likely to push about dubble the 5psi you are saying.

Don't know if the performance you've quoted make more sence with about 10 psi?

Hope this helps you.

Dazed and Confused....

There is certainly plenty of belt slip at the mo. That would certainly cause a loss of power and the power run was done with no tensioner fitted just to see how it would run. We are re mounting the charger to eliminate movement and locating the tensioner

johhny ,

these are the torque graphs from the rr day ,all 1300cc ish apart from marks which i think is 1380 . i v focused on the 3100 rpm area so you can see the general trends ,and included the boost graph for that rpm area too .. matts car had no boost measurement ,and also had nitrous, this is what makes the bump in his curve where hes tested the gas briefly.hope this helps .

Hi robert nice work about the graphs have these been posted else where i've not seen them before, I think the jump up in mine was the clutch slipping, was this taken from an early run?

Hope these work.

And i got to drive it a very short distance! wo-ho!
All thats left to do is a little more welding on the charger fram as it twists under full throttle and a tensioner as the belt slip was quite bad!

yes matt they are all in the registered member section under, originally enough, rr shoot out graphs .

it was taken from your first run ,i thought it was a n2o blip because you put out 50 odd bhp more power at the same revs later with the same clutch .

yes have me thinking now. I know when i have had wheel spin of clucth slip before that#'s how the graphs look. so i guess it could be either. I'll look in members then, never go in there.

very cool Jonny, I wish I was this far along! I've got almost all the bits for mine now, just need to buy the V4 ecu and find a decent turbo carb and plenum and I'm ready to start building.

I'm hoping it won't take me too long to get the charger setup working once the test engine is in and running.

Keep us posted man, this is such an interesting build

I think I said when you first put up pics that there was really low belt wrap Jonny, it could be covering SO much more of the pulley if you added a tensioner under the charger to bring the belt back round towards the engine more on the underside of the pulley. That should solve the slip issues!

Thats exactly where we are going to put the tensioner, right under the charger pulley between there and the crank pulley.
I havent heard from Neil so will send him a quick mail to see how its going. We need to re-fix the charger frame as it twists under boot which really wont help the belt slip issue and fit the tensioner. It does sound utterly scary though!!!!
