here's another metro with the cooler up top

i may have to invest in a Nic PLENUM to do it this way, i can get cold air hitting the cooler from both sides & have a 12v computer fan 5" diameter running on a switch

Do computer fans run at 12v? By the sound of mine as I bounce it around, they don't like bumps. Also, I would imagine they are next to useless on an intercooler, what sort of flow do they produce?

That is fucking wank.

The intercooler needs to go at the front. Why not move the radiator back a bit and then get the cooler in front?

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

If you want to move the rad forward you will need a slim fan. the metro one is huge and will fowl the starter, dizzy etc.

i really is'nt spacious in the metro bay chaps! there is defo more room to put various items in a round front mini than a metro bay! its tight as tuppence! & thats tight!

the cooler in the above pic is in the airflow as i have a small bonnet scoop ie a rover metro bonnet vent with the fins cut off an smoothed with grp into a scoop shape which would fee air over the top fins, i can add a pipe from the front of the car to feed the underside of the cooler with cold air & i have a 5" computer fan which runs on 12v, got it from maplins ages ago

mr belllamys setup on his metro van is the best option so far i think! & for me would involve the least cost!

mpi rad & a slim cooler to mount in the front then me thinks

i just need to explore all the optoins rather than just dog anything in that does'nt work well!

& my bonnet is stuck shut again, should have that sorted by tomorrow! & a tyax disk +fuel to give it a run! dry it out

i'm not working at the mo either & cant find pissin job so getting up early & car fiddling is keeping me from going mental!

The MPI fan has to be one of the slimiest fans out there, just remember it goes in front of the rad as opposed to most fans that go behind the rad, it's a suck verses blow kind of thing.

I still don't think the above setup will work, even with a bonnet scoop. Flow out of the back of an intercooler is as important as flow into the front. The way I see it, with so little room behind the IC, it will just create a high pressure region behind the IC and air will have sod all/no velocity through it.

I still don't trust a computer fan either.

I did base all of that on instinct rather than fact but I'm sure others will agree. (I hope)

The metro hoses are bigger than the mini ones, so you'll need to do something clever with them. You will also need an inline or fin mounted fan switch.

I converted mine to megajolt, jap alternator, Nic plenum, got rid of the standard airbox and moved the rad back and to the right. Can still put the original grille on that way too

well i may have a solution to the front mount intercooler setup so i'll report back! *surprised*D

one question, i need to change the hoses on the oil cooler to flexi hoses anyone know the the thread size of the metro oil cooler hoses? as i need to move it a bit!

2. whats easiest way to hookup an oil pressure guage? i seem to have a a oil pressure problom when the car is up to temp on the motorway! the light flickers

i admit i need to check the wires under the dash as you can hear it clicking under the dash which must be a relay to the warning light on the dash

around town & duel crageways its fine?

i have the oil topped up just below max
water temp is one notch above halfway on the gauage "steady"

anyhoo today its up & running ok, need to re-check the timing/mixture plug colour! as so far i've not been able to check mixture colour as it has'nt been driven!

got all five wheels re-sealed, new valves as they were dropping pressure, needs tracking doing too! has'nt used water! got check oil yet, the usual bits need greasing, & fettling but it seems ok

the head i've used has bigger valves than the stock turbo head & it seem like the turbo spools up earlier?

so priority is oil pressure gauge is priority i have some bits n bob to hook one up it only has to be tempory so i can see whats happening on a run!

also need to put a minispares gearbox selector rod seal in, i name the car, the lil drip *surprised*P
cheers all

The general consensus on here seems to be you don't need an oil cooler on a road car, so you could just ditch it.

Check the connector to your oil switch as it probably has a dodgy connection. Best thing to do is chop off the connector on the end of the wire and put a new one on. The clicking relay is the fuel pump relay dropping in and out as it is controlled by the oil pressure switch. The dodgy connection is a common problem.

ok i'll check that out! the oil light go's out straight away on startup so thats hopefully a good sign, i know the a/a+ does'nt need hi pressure but consistant oil pressure!

i'll keep the oil cooler, the factory fitted it so i'll leave it in! be on the safe side, any extra cooling on the oil in hot weather is gonna help aint it

gotta nip to the dads tomorrow he seems to thing he has connectors for t-piece-ing in a pressure gauge which will be zip tied in the car untill i can get a holder grrrrr i may have a bezal/holder in the agrage though!

It's your choice, but do a search on oil coolers and there are cars on here with big outputs not running oil coolers, and they have oil temperature gauges to prove it isn't needed. Overcooled oil won't do your engine or oil any good.

i'll try both metroturbo reason i say this is

tonight i've found a old speedograph t-piece in the garage after mucho'ss searching

i found an enlectrical gauge & its sender but have no clue how to hook it up & the previous numpty (not me even though i am a numpty) has wired the 3 gauages i have all with black wiringing so i dont know what wires go where & the splitfore gauges have no markings so....

i found a brand new set of cheapo sunpro gauges & a few fixtures n fittings so i'll dog them in the metro! asap

see how we go hey!
what sort of oil pressure should i be seeing on startup & running?

We haven't bothered on the van, we just have the MG metro heat exchanger on the oil filter
