I feel a cunt, sorry mate, can't work out where it went wrong, the timing marks did throw us out but having checked both sets I'm sure it timed up the second time we tried. I can only wonder if in the confusion we've knocked the timing disc round or something. Anyway glad you've found it and fingers crossed for the next rolling road test.

Cam timing has kicked us all in the nuts at some point or other. I royally screwed it up once when I was too tired to concentrate properly. And one other time I
Don't know how but I got it perfectly timed one tooth out lol...

My ph2 is timed in at 108 and it seems to do the job!

Glad you fixed it and look forward to seeing the numbers.

Cam timing is a black art, the amount of head scratching it's caused me in the past is a pain in the arse.

Glad you've got it sorted now dude!

Fucking cam timing LOL im sure we've all had fun with it.

i distinctly remember trying to time it in on the exhaust lobe, and another time tying to time it BTDC instead of ATDC

Update !!

Been on the rollers today and good news bad news !
We have power !! Plenty of it , 181.7 bhp @6500 .
Problem now is boost creep ! Actuator is set at 14psi so it initaly boosts to that then at 5.5k the wastgate carnt cope and it just keeps adding boost so the 6.5k is at 20 psi and if we had revved it up to its 7200 limit it looked like it would hit 23/24 psi but obviously started to lean a bit .
So i did port the wastegate and im going to see if it will go more. I think it will but im not sure how much it will affect it. My other option is an external but im not too familiar with those so going to have a read up .

well thats good news!

i wpuld have disconnected the wastgate on the rollers and done a run to see what happened,

externals can be a pain to get in but other than that not too hard to deal with, probably your best solution, hole saw, some pipe and an external...

A number of people have suffered boost creep with the GT2056.

I recall Brett ? cured it by opening out the wastegate port in the turbo. I've done the same but have not ran it in ernest yet.

That's got to be a result rick. How does it behave on part throttle? Is it driveable?
It was good to meet you at mallory last week, I had a mint day.

Only way to fix the 2056 creep is by opening it up. I forget what dia works, but your size target is basically as large as possible! Blue it up, scrib around the flapper, then scribe another circle 4mm smaller and bore it out.

After this is done, blue the flapper and scribe that through the hole you just made larger to get an idea how close you are to the flapper - switching and doing it this way as well gives you two reference points that you aren't going too far.

You want to get to within a 1mm radial land to make this problem go away for good...

Yes im happy with the result .

Thanks roy , it was good to meet you too , there was defintly a few supprised people whent you went flying past them lol

Ive been talking to bret about the problem and hes given me a hole size that his was thats fixed it.
I did port mine out before fitting but obviously not enough, all being well an easy ish fix.

Yes should show a few up now wil

Now back to good news bad news !! Got the turbo off and picked up a die grinder ! But the turbo has loads of play in it now and it was brand new !!

There isn't much more I can grind out either to be honest so I'm not sure how effective it's going to be !

Who else is actually running a gt2056 ??

That doesn't sound encouraging.

Haven't a few people killed them fairly easily now?

Seems strange that the others in the turbo family survive.

Found a good turbo repair place in Sheffield Rick. Did my 205 turbo for a good price.
Time for an external gate whilst it's off the car?

I think I've just been really lucky.

I had boost creep when I was trying to run a 10psi actuator. Swapped back to the std GT20 actuator that gave me 15psi and had no boost creep issues.
My hole hasn't been bored out either *wink*

I'm not sure if to open the hell out of it in the morning and just bolt it back on and see how it lasts and if it fixes the creep !! It's already opened out but there is room for a bit more , just not sure really if that bit more will make much difference !!

External gate sounds good but it's more time messing and I want to get out in it ! I've already missed Mallory and I'm hoping to be a cadwell !!

Is it that the gt20 just isn't men to sustain those kind of revs v boost etc !! And we're all on borrowed time

The 2056 will run VERY high boost easily, and reliably. If yours is toast and was brand new, it's likely you have either been very unlucky or you have an underlying issue - perhaps a poor oil feed? It doesn't need any kind of restrictor like a BB turbo.

Thanks dave .
I had thought about oil supply etc and I was concerned that my oil drain wasn't good enough ! Not sure how much that would affect it !
It's the same oil feed off the front of the block as the t3 was with the fittings changed .
My only thought as to why is could it of been down to my oil pump problems last month ! Could running it for 5seconds with no pressure of done it ! I still worry I've damaged the motor as it was started 4-5 times with no pressure for 5 seconds ?
But I get good instant oil pressure so I'm hopeful

running it at idle for a few seconds will not be an issue, nd if the drain was a problem it would be smoking like a bastard.

how much play is there? the modern turbo's do run a fair bit more play than a T3 for example, i nf fact garret states that as long as the wheels dont touch the housing its ok...

somthing else to check.... how far dows the wastegate actually open? is the actuator ( or anything else) limiting it, ie theres not a lot of point porting it out if its got a flat plate bolted on that only allows the flap to open a few mm.
