Hey Guys,

I'm rebuilding a turbo mini motor and would like to add some sort of cooling... either an intercooler or a charge cooler... to keep the motor in one piece (this time).

Which one do you guys recommend and what brands are people using? Where to get them would also help.

Thanks

Francesco *tongue*

Most people use an intercooler from another vehicle, Renault 5, RS Turbo etc..
If you want a custom one building to your spec then theres loads, just search the net for companies like Pace, Forge Motorsport etc

given that you live in California some very effecient will be needed, it is more than a intercooler is needed to keep it all together. a good rolling road session is the good money spent.

keep the boost low if you want to make the engine last a long time..i know it is tempting to wind it up high!!

I've got a concern about chargecoolers... in that they are not as great for a road car, particually one in a 'warm' climate, as many believe... You are still relying on air to do the overall cooling... For Drag racing (or quick power runs on some rollers) this is fine of course, as chilled water can be used, but for the open road, i'm just not convinced...

Interesting point dave..

I know several people who see betetr acts on the road with a charge cooler... admitadly they are not turbo minis.

Water is about 3 times as heat conductive as air supposedly.

Great!!!

I contacted Spearco regarding one of their custom setups, but who knows what they will charge. Do you guys know where I can find a new/used Renault 5 intercooler... that sounds like the most cost efficient way to go about things.

Thanks for all your help!

isnt the intercooler for the series 2 Escort RST slightly better for its size that the 5GT? A quote from our man dave in minimag "its incredibly efficient for its size" To the best of my knowledge they are slightly easier to source too, i see them all over the place *tongue*
