Betwix Harrogate and York

two years ago they insisted on helmets for all drivers, where as previously they didn't require them.

Last year they only made you wear a helmet if your car was going to run quicker than 11 seconds.

£40 will NOT be a good helmet! It might pass regs, but I woudlnt trust my life to it.

Mine was over £300, and is still classed as a cheapy helmet.

at the pod they have a similar rule, any car that might exceed 100mph terminal needs a helmet.

The only probs with bike lids these days is they are not kite marked with Type "A" on them like is needed for "real" motorsport, by real i mean hillclimb, srint and circuit racing.

I only found out about these new changes in a bike shop just last week were i was looking for a new helmet as mine in 8 years old now.

I noticed you could get a very good, lightweight, modern and strong helmet for circa £180 but it would be no good as it does'nt have the right lable on it to satisfy the MSA scrutineers.

So for AVON PARK you just need a lid of any type, but the best you can afford as it might save your life oneday.

In my opinion, if you just need a helmet for Avon Park, any will do the job, as the likelihood of you managing to have a serious accident in a straight line are pretty slim.

However if you are ever planning to do any circuit driving, then buy the best you can afford.
