hello,

i'm getting myself pretty confused at the moment, hopefully someone will be able to help solve my problem.

I'm fitting (trying) a set of KAD 6 pot calipers, as far as I can make out these should fit straight over pretty much any std disc configuration, eg 7.5 S discs, 8.4mini discs,

I am attempting to put them on to 8.3" vented discs with metro hubs, at first I assumed i needed the metro vented disc drive flange (NAM6450F) but these move the vented disc out too far from the hub so the caliper will not fit, I then tried the mini drive flange's (21A2695 the ones KAD say to use with vented discs) these make the disc lock up against the hub (where the steering arm and caliper bolts on).

At this point I took a look at the S hubs on my other car, these have more clearance but still not enough.

Basicly no configuration seems to fit, and I don't have enough stock bits to identify what part is causing the problem.

I think I need to start with the question,

With vented disks with alloy 4 pot calipers on S hubs, what drive flange should I be using?

Cheers Joe.

Why are you using the metro hubs?

8.4 inch mini hubs are the ones u want, you will not have any of the headache trying to get your suspension geometry correct that u get wiht metro ones.

Have you used the spacers in between the caliper halfs? I have not personally used the kad 6 pots, but most need spacing to accept the vended disk. This could be why it isnt seeming to fit when using the vented flange (the only one to use for vented disks)

well, I have the same problem on S hubs and metro hubs, so the geometry issue is irrelevent at the moment.

the KAD 6pots are a solid billet so don't have spacers, in fact they will go over the discs but the disc position as all cocked up.

After looking at it for a couple of hours I suspect that the disc is manufactured slightly too thick with the extra material on the rear of the disc causing the fouling, does anyone know the thickness of a std vented metro disc? mine are 21mm.

I have fitted both 6 and 4 pots from KAD and you nearly always have to grind off some of the steering arms.

Yeah, I saw the bit in KAD's instruction's about the steering arms, but there's still JUST about contact with the steering arm removed on S hubs, also the disc contacts with the caliper where the rear pad is, if the disc cas about 1-2mm furter out i reckon everything would fit, it looks like there has to be an issue with either the drive flange or the disc.

I think it must be the disc, i think i'll lathe a bit off the bell part and see if that works.

JT were the 6 pots you fitted on vented discs?

yes the 6 pots I fitted were with vented discs - but they were the ones KAD provide for the big brake set up (13" wheels only) - I worked with a guy who managed to fit them under 10s so I will have a word and get back to you *wink*

right after much measuring and head scratching the amount the disc needs to move is 5mm or 200 thou or something.

funily enough this just so happens to be the amount KAD say to machine from the inside of the bell to clear the oil seal (see link)

http://www.kad-uk.com/which%20mini%20calipers.htm

I reckon it should be machined from the outside of the disc bell rather than the inside.......

like what i've already done.......
