it all depends on the MOT man. i had a mini fail due to the rear valance corners being rusty. i was told the middle bit was not structual so could be removed but not the corners.

a friend has a mini that past last week and he has no valanve or closing panel bits. so its down to the man on the day

if you go to Avon look out for my rusty blue van. people dont beleive me that it past the MOT 3 wks ago, and there's nothing holding the doors on!!

its the fact i've seen alot with no valance running around, even the closing panels the ends are'nt really structual are they (set me str8 if they are) ppl also remove the boot floor & add a carbon or grp fillin panal to the area? i'm just unsure whether to strike my grinder 'n' cutting wheel up

Like Mr Shed says, it depends on the tester.

The rules state that any metalwork within 30cm of a suspension mounting point is deemed structural, as the rear subframe mounts not very far away in the rear corners of the boot, then according to the MOT rules then the rear valance is structural, and so removing it would fail.

Of course anyone (or any MOT tester) with working eyes can see that the rear valance is just a flappy bit of tin and contributes little if not fuck all to the strength of the rear of the car.

i think my best option as its my road car, is to get busy with a hole saw is'nt it, any advice to places i can remove metal from to lighten the car, i've stripped the inside other than the front seats and carpets and speedo & doorcards! i have a grp bonnet and boot to fit,

can i fit polycarbonate windows, just the rear screen and rear side windows as i want a glass front screen and usable door glass

cheers guys

If you dont want to carry people in the rear you can cut out the seat squab, rear door pockets etc.

Remove the headlining, take a hole saw to the doors, lip the headlining fits into, panel which holds the rear door cards in.

You can go as far as you like it just depends how comfatable you want the car to be.

I would at least consider putting the speedo back in though!!

i dont mind extra noise & such, i just want to prepare the rust free shell on my daily driver so its lighter=more economical=less wear on components 'n' such, plus a lil extra speed outta my throbbing standard thou (for now), where do you get the sliding windows frm, are they polycarb, are they secure on a daily driver
