I think mine is about 4" from the turbo.

Seems to work fine.

They work better when hottest - i have mine in my 'elbow' and have no problems. I would keep it less than 6" away for sure...

I've had a boss welded onto it - luckilly the elbow is made from cast steel, so welds quite easilly. You must remember to drill and tap the boss first though and position the boss over a hole in the elbow that is larger than the OD of the Lambda thread (M18??), as when welding, all the carbon is drawn out of the cast and it goes super-hard!

I've just got a boss welded on the down pipe, it certinally gets hot enough there.

I seem to remember that the thread size is something ridiculous. To be honest my brother (Ben H) did it. I can try and find out about the boss thread (he might even have some left, Ben?)

I haven't got any engine management (yet). I've just got a lambda sensor meter (Green for rich and red for lean).

Not very sunny swanage

am i right in thinking that in thoery these will tell you when your running massively too lean and are likely to start melting things. if so then they would seem to be a bloody good investment, if not, then what do they do?

only a wide band sensor will tell you that, the cheapo gauges using std O2 sensors arnt any use.

That's what I use mine for. I think it's got something like 8 LEDs. As I said before green for rich and red for lean with a few yellows in the middle which indicate somwhere about right.

It's been wery useful. The guy who RR tunes my car uses it to set the fueling so it can't be that bad.

Hi Folks!

I sell them for 100 pounds with brand new Bosch lambda sensor, welding bung and plug for the bung. Has 10 LEDs (2red = lean, 6 green + 2yellow for rich). I also bought a DIY wideband kit - but not in use yet (Even DIY expensive!)
Harry
PS: Alex, I have had good experience with the lean/rich lambda sensors - better than no info about mixture; I will keep you informed about my wideband kit!

Forgotten more than most ever know

The thread is M18x1,5 on most lambda sensors. Same as Pinto spark plugs. Neat to use as afterburner plug, I bet they would be impressed in Miniworld vs. Minimagazine. How about some road fame for you RR session, just use another coil and run a lead from it ???

Just checked, my meter is a 10 LED type but I think I paid ?100 just for that. the Lambda sensor was about ?30 and who know where I got the boss from.

TurboHarry's offer looks like a good deal to me.

Have a look at this: http://wbo2.com/
I bought the kit from them - the sensor I bought from America - you will find the link on their website. But to be honest - the next time I will buy the assembled kit! I overestimated my electronic skills! The kit is soldered now - but I have to wait until a friend of mine (He's repairing TV etc.) has time to measure some checkpoints in the electronics.
About he price of my lambda kit: I think it is competitive - I just had to laugh about the price for only the electronis in the Demon Tweeks catalogue.
I have this kit in all my Minis all the time- You really feel blind without it!

Dave. Do you remember that we discussed this at Avon? You said it was perfectly OK to mount the sensor at the lower elwob if you know what I mean down by the diff housing. This because at the turbo elbow it gets too hot. Which is right? :)
I remember you said that Jim's was a but too near the turbo. Also, if fitted in the cast elbow, wouldn't thi obstruct flow a lot?

Why start a new thread when it's been half discussed previously? Much easier to search for information at a later date if all similarish info you need is in one thread not four.
So, is this a problem for you?
