I got the new engine fired up but i think i have a major issue.... i can stall the engine from 2k by just depressing the clutch...

i'm guessing i have too much endfloat on the crank??

If you've had it appart you may find that the thrusts are the wrong way round *wink*

well i've had the flywheel off and the straps and diafram are all in the correct postition and correctly spaced etc.

only thing i found was the flywheel main nut was a much much louser than it should be.. but i'm guessing that would not cause my problem...

gonna try a verto setup just to be sure but i'm pretty sure i need to drag the engine crane out again

I am most certain that the thrusts are the wrong way around in this engine, as it stalls like that. I would just take it apart and fix it asap to avoid destroying the crank. that happens REALLY fast when you have the thrusts mixed up.

well i ripped it apart today and the thrusts WERE in the right way round....

one pair of thrusts were mullared tho... and upon re-checking the endfloat i needed +3thou on both sides, not the std's i originally fitted.... seems my donkeys year old feeler guages are a bit off... now re-checked with a modern set (i even checked the guages with a vernier to make double sure)

just a matter of timing the cam in now and droping it back in the car...

thanks again to bud666 to came to my rescue again with a .1mm thinner transfer case gasket...

A DTI is peferable over thrusts for setting end float, AND much easier to get right first time!

Turn the engine onto its "side" so the crank is vertical.

Then set the DTI up on the nose of the crank. By levering against a crank web with a crowbar or similar you can then see the endfloat on the DTI.
