My lads Mini 30 passed it's MOT today.

The end of 18 months of hard work restoring it from a wreck.

Did all the work ourselves including the painting.

Now it's done I can concentrate on Project Turbo - should be able to MOT that next month and start the EFI trials.

Left it absolutely standard for now but it has still cost me £1100 to insure - ouch!!!!

If the insurance comes through in the post tomorrow we will take it on a picnic to Long Marston on Sunday!

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Great to meet you too Tom.

Had a excellent day. Especially enjoyed watching those 70s drag cars - reminded me of my teenage years when I used to go to the Pod. Hardly missed a meet between 1972 and 1980! Then I got married!!!!!!

The Thirty got use there and back without a hitch - 150 mile round trip. I know you guys tavelled a lot further, but the car is still an unknown to us having not driven it any distance since we bought.

Anyway, now thinking about a pure track car for such events. Turbo A Series of course. Maybe the wife's 35 will be a suitable donor*happy*

Remember this lovely litle motor?

Unfortunately it decided that it did not like a lampost last night and in the ensuing collision it lost its front panel, bonnet, n/s wing, A post and passenger door and put a big buckle in the roof. Pool of oil underneath.

Axel was OK, but his two mates needed hospital treatment.

Straight bit of road, well lit, broke for the roundabout and it just snapped sideways. Skid mark on the road shows that the offside rear locked up.

Gutted............. *crying*

Heart says fix it, but the brain says scrap it.

Am I a bad influence ?????? Was he driving too fast like his dad????

Not good. How bad is the roof and how straight is the car? The front end, door and a panel are easy enough to sort, but the roof is a PITA.

I take it the passengers aren't seriously hurt.

Crap !

Accidents happen and thats all there is to it. Ive been in a couple of sticky situations with my mini and Id like to think the main reason that it hasnt all ended in tears is because of my sprint and hillclimb experience.

Maybe you and the lads should get out to a couple of track days or perhaps an advanced driving course ?

Im not suggesting that any of you drive like hooligans, just saying that after mucking it up a couple of times on the track i now know what to expect on the road.

His mates are OK. One had trouble breathing and the other had a serious nose bleed. Both home now.

The roof is creased as the A post took the force. It may well have twisted the bulkhead, floor and sills.

By the time we got there at about 2:00am this morning, it was hooked up to a recovery truck and is now somewhere near MK.

We need to get it back and properly assess the damage.

Bad news is that it was only insured TPF&T. Good new, if there is any, is that we should get away with making a claim on his insurance. There will be bills for the recovery and lamppost, hopefully not too much.

How have you got this far with your minis without owning a spot welder? They are a godsend!

Ouch! Where the bloody eck is the door skin? And has someone pinched the headlights?

As Jason says it's just a bit of metal. At least nobody was seriously hurt.

I'd definately say its a breaker though now.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Doorskin was loose so it was taken off and you can just about see it on passenger seat.
Also headlights are inside the car as well.

I know I don't need to say this, but be carefull posting 'here is my badly damaged car' and then advertising for a shell at the same time. Some people (as in the authorities) may jump to entirely the wrong conclusion.
